Minor unhappiness with side switch setup
« on: February 13, 2021, 05:14:35 PM »
I usually fly bishop but in the afternoons they prefer to furball and/or defend and that's not what I enjoy doing. So I enabled the side switch option and intended to fly for someone (anyone!) else. But the #s were roughly even so I stayed bish once side switch was enabled. I waited for ~10 minutes, saw that the #s were still roughly even, and even upped a jeep and towered a few times in the hopes I would end up somewhere else. No dice. So I said to heck with it and chose rooks to fly with, only to see I was stuck bish for 5.81 hours or whatever it was (until side switch saved me, which it hasn't yet).

Does side switch need to be a 6 hour commitment thing? Or am I missing something? I am still in tower hoping things will change, but I'll do some non-AH thing if I'm stuck here for the duration.

Again, a minor unhappiness. I mean, I am moderately unhappy but it's not some design flaw that's going to doom the side switch idea. Just wondering if there is a way around it.

Once you use side switch, then turn it off, you can't change sides for 6 hours. If you are looking to change sides, make your selection manual. The side switch mechanism is for those who would like to help even team, not travel the world. The more folks signed up for it means less switching per person.

Yeah, that's what I figured out (belatedly). Will avoid side switch in future when I want to avoid a particular team, thx.

It is new, probably not perfect.... but it seems to be working well for what it is supposed to do.

Good luck in your never ending search for entertainment.  :aok

It’s great for earning perks resupping strats on certain maps.

Getting those tin can Panthers and Jadgpanthers perks back from one shot T34 ninjas...
They're casting their bait over there, see?

I fly rook full time since I dont fly perk planes but they are a lot of fun and dont blame anyone for wanting perks.

At first I thought anyone on the perk+ side would only vulch and avoid fights in order to land their kills but as it turns out Ive seen very little change in game play. Guys are still looking for fights and thats all that matters. As long as a fighting spirit is in the game its all good.

Personally I think it's possibly improved the fight aspect of the game. It has seemed easier to find a fight in prime time lately.

I fight my squadmates while on different countries. Get a better fight that way.

Many of us just needed the tool to help the game. We switch to help make the game better for everyone. We do not need perks either... I have 60,000. The perks are to entice those who would not otherwise care one way or the other.

It is not the same if you are with the country or just send there to grab perks. I mean some dont put much effort inside when they switch.
When i read eg. 17 rooks are online but only 5 or 6 are playing its something that worries me.

The downside I witnessed, and it was only once, is that a person flying Bish changed direction of a Bish CV then a couple minutes later was on the Knight side attacking the CV. :bhead

I find swapping refreshing

I get gang banged then many times I am flying with the same gang

I think it has made a huge difference and has many more pros than cons

True!  Somehow, it has persuaded the runners not to run so often.

Hasn't affected the ganging, but hey!  If you want a fight, taking on the whole gang doubles the pleasure.  I've had more memorable 1v1s and 5v1s in the past couple of weeks than I've had in the past couple of years.

According to the info post, you can turn that off.  Which, I didn't see when I signed in after it was implemented.

All, good.
