Bf 109F-4 flown by Helmut Fenzl of 7./Jg 27 on October 28, 1942. His flight of four Bf 109's was bounced by P-40's of 112 Squadron RAF while flying over British lines near El Alamein. Fenzl was forced to crash land after taking damage and was taken prisoner by the British. He would remain a POW until the end of the war. His Bf 109F "White 7" was photographed in it's belly-landed state before any souvenir hunters could pick parts off it.
"White 7" features full coverage of RLM 79 Sand on the top and sides with RLM 78 Light Blue underneath. Missing are the usual data/warning stencils on the fuselage and wings where RLM 79 was painted. The rudder has areas of a lighter shade of RLM 79, either a repair or covering up the victory marks of a previous pilot. The badge of III/Jg 27 was painted on the cowling. White theater markings were painted on the wingtips, prop spinner, forward fuselage and just aft of the fuselage cross. The lower cowl is painted with RLM 04 yellow for IFF purposes. The photographs of this plane show only light weathering of smoke and oil, so I turned down these effects on this skin.
