After flying Vickers Wellesley and Bristol Blenheim bombers in the Med theatre for the first two years of the war 14 Squadron was re-equipped with the Martin Marauder in May 1942. Initially these aircraft were painted in the RAF's desert scheme of dark earth, mid stone and azure blue. However the squadron flew mostly maritime reconnaissance missions so the upper portion of this scheme was replaced with the Coastal Command colours of extra dark sea grey and dark slate grey. Other duties the squadron performed included shooting down several Me323 transports, torpedo bombing and mine laying.
This particular aircraft "D" was named "Dominion Revenge". "Dominion" was a name common to all the squadron's aircraft because the bulk of their crews came from the British Empire and Commonwealth and "Revenge" because all their aircraft were named after various Royal Navy warships that had served in the Med.
