To range a CV: Get in the Shore battery, 5", 8" or 16"(on battleships) gun. Next, look towards the CV in the gun and hit Cntrl+Q (sea mode) .... you will see a yellow horizontal grid.... use the W, S, A and D keys to move the grid so the bottom of the vertical grid lines are at the waterline of the CV. That will put you pretty close or right on the CV range. The center vertical line is lower and that is where your rounds will land. Remember your target CV is moving so you have to lead your target depending on how far your shells are traveling and the direction your target is moving.
For stationary targets like towns, bases, strats and Shore batteries: I bring up the clipboard map and find the map room, object or shore battery icon. I left click and hold on the icon and use the insert and delete keys to zoom in all the way on the icon on the map. I them release the left click and left click again on the icon and hold while pressing Shift+Q (land mode). Release the left click. now everytime you left click on the map, the target will move to that spot while you are in land mode even though your cv is moving. you can make adjustments to the grid by again using the W, S, A and D keys. I click on the area behind the Shore battery icon just a little when I'm zoomed all the way in on the map. Fire a round and adjust accordingly....Once you hit the shore battery, very little adjustment is needed even though your CV is moving as long as you are in Land mode. You can hit the Q key to leave sea or land mode and go back to normal mode. If you need more help I would be happy to get together and show you the ropes..I think they might have CVs in the training arena or you can experiment offline on one of the maps.
