nopoop,  I feel your pain.  I came over to AH from WBs and found out I didn't anything about acm or fighter ops.  I'm slowly building my skill set and my kills are slowly increasing.  I'm hell in a bomber, mind you, but below average in a fighter and absolute crap in a vehicle. 

Some of us were discussing this in game yesterday.  For me, just playing the game is an end unto itself.  I don't care what other teams do.  I like flying with guys like McGavin and Maniac and leper, Zanth, and working cooperatively with them, but I also like just popping of to resupply strats or whichever base needs it the most.

And I would like to learn how to post AH films, too.

When I was in WB I took a training class with Steve on reversals. The classic Drex reversal and our homework was to enter any fight low. And then work on the reverse. I got "ok"  at it but could never learn the views needed on the pass through. So I would get the con to pass through but couldn't follow the views to put his plane in my sights when he reached the front view. In that reverse you had to change views as he passed by you and adjust your flight path to put him in your sights.

We'd hitch a ride with Steve to watch it unfold. He'd have each of us attack. He killed us all, one at a time. I learned alot but never that view thing. But I worked it furballing every day. Finally one day I killed two where they had all the cards.

I just want to get back there..

Try rolling to keep the bandit in your up/fwd, up, and up/rear views. That will put you in the same plane of maneuver. Mind the ground.

You want to end up pointing ahead of the bandit for your shot and the common mistake is to always try lead pursuit even when you don't have enough radial G available to get the shot angle. Point yourself behind the bandit in lag pursuit and consider out of plane maneuvering to improve your position before you pull lead pursuit for the shot.

When you merge you turn in front of the bandit because starting the turn early finishes the turn early. Then you fly behind the bandit for position, then in front of the bandit for the shot. Fly the same plane as the bandit so you see how the geometry works.

Both trackir and vr work great with joystick views in AH

With vr the only programmed views I use are straight up and dead 6

VR is the best way to get better fast IMO

Are you talking about lead-turning in a co-e 12-12 merge?

With some offset yes,if you time it properly you will be 90 degrees into the turn just yards behind the enemy.

That would be one example but any merge requiring a turn would benefit from turning early rather than late. If the bandit also turns early you at least turn together. Just don't turn too early. Also, take into account different aircraft turn rates and energy states. Practicing 1v1 co-E same aircraft is the best way to start learning the timing of the merge.

This is the problem when trying to discuss bfm/acm with words. If I was more comp wavy I’d post a nice graph showing positions,flight paths etc. and since I lost most my AH stuff in the great crash of 2018, comp fried, I can’t even post a link without doing a bunch of research.

ATM I have too many irons in the fire but if I get bored and look around I’ll get some links to show or give an idea of what I mean.

The most important thing is to practice merges in a controlled manner that teaches you proper timing. Reading about ACM and watching videos will be more useful when you have a foundation of practical experience to provide context.
