Try pulling the trigger :airplane:

 :rofl

LOL, yeah. It'll take me a bit to get my gunnery skills back up to snuff. I went up against some pretty bad-ass buff killers back in the day. Lots of patience leading to some suspenseful moments.   :uhoh  :D

EGG

Definitely.  Very few actually took the time, which meant my "name in lights" more often than not.  The ones who actually took their time though, man, that was the stuff!  You eventually learn who it likely is by how they are flying to set up too, and how they pressed their attacks.

For example:

Every time I was intercepted by Challenge, he would fly a reasonable distance out in front before turning in and making a 5-20 degree high off my nose, 11-1 head-on.

Snail was a wild card; came in from very high 9:30-10:30 or 1:30-2:30, and came in really fast.  Sometimes he would actually go out in front in and come in more or less 11:45-12:15.  It's how he flew his setup that has him stand out to me.  He would check his position relative to my own a lot (wing dips, course adjustments, etc).  I've not encountered another interceptor who would keep checking like him.

This is how my encounters with these two usually went. :D

LedMagnet is one I've actually got into a dog fight with, with my bomber!  That was hella fun!  :D  He intercepted my set of Ju-88's in an F4U-1 and shot down two of my aircraft.  Since I didn't have drones holding me back, and wasn't likely to return, "It's show time!".  The fight lasted a min or so, and ended when I lost one of my horizontal stabilizers and tried to pull a maneuver too low for that.  If I still had it, I would've completed it, but I ended up in the drink instead.  :rofl

Got into another one with him, only in a B-26 instead.  He had to let me go as he was running out of fuel, and oh boy, the B-26 is most definitely not suited for it.  The Ju-88 is an A6M2 in comparison.  Kept him occupied long enough to live though. :rofl :D

Ah, yes..  Snailman a.k.a Lusche. I have not forgotten the high alt draw that it came to when he was going after my 17's. High enough that it was difficult for him to set up with his 262. At best, he'd catch up to my level 3:00 and 9:00, trying to get ahead of me but not having a lot of luck as he would take a few swipes. Other times, if I was at any lower alt (20 down to 15K), he would clean my clock from up high, but I managed to make him pay for it. Fun times.. ;)

For the moment, I've been back on this side of the river (and the ocean, for that matter) for over a year. I was living in the southern Philippines (Davao City, Mindanao) for a few years up until this BS pandemic took all the fun out of being there. I'm waiting to be *allowed*  back in.

You still in the North End Boise?

A little update..

Subscribed tonight and got a little time in. It is indeed good to be back. First kill was a 163 who made the mistake of coming up from underneath at 25K. Fun stuff.

Good to hear you are alive and well, Thndr!

I ended up mostly flying mornings, logging into the overnight 2-man base takes and strats under 50%.  Got too routine and tedious for me, so I haven’t flown in months.  Built a nice new i7-based speed demon of a machine, still waiting for a mortgage to afford a respectable vid card.

I just ended my subscription because there wasn’t a lot of interest in bombing missions anymore.  Might be back someday, just not sure.

Glad to know you are back, though.  Flying with you and Flayed1 were the best times I ever had in the game, even better than the old, old days when we flew with the Bops under Falconwing and Shubie.

Agreed, sir. It's good to be back. Thought about it for a long time as well. That was one of the game-related reasons I left, too. Right now, I'm just killing time trying to enjoy what little remains while I'm here stateside. Those old days haven't been back since. Feels a bit like a boomtown that went bust. But, I've been on with TT, Waldo, Deadman, Angus and a few others having fun with what's left. Maybe we can get a few more people to come back in..  who knows.. ?

So far, it's been 10 days since I re-subscribed. Played a fair bit most days doing my thing- mostly in bombers (as usual for me), but a few things in fighters and such. In my opinion, although I had to adjust my idea of fun after years of "old school MA", it's been an entertaining experience. There's still action to be had, even at 20+K with some opponents intercepting. No, it's not possible to recreate the old scale of main arena impromptu missions we did before- the numbers are still not there, but it's alright. One can always hope for a comeback influx of new subscribers.
I'm good with it. Hope the player base grows again..

Good game. <S>
