Try pulling the trigger
LOL, yeah. It'll take me a bit to get my gunnery skills back up to snuff. I went up against some pretty bad-ass buff killers back in the day. Lots of patience leading to some suspenseful moments.
EGG
Definitely. Very few actually took the time, which meant my "name in lights" more often than not. The ones who actually took their time though, man, that was the stuff! You eventually learn who it likely is by how they are flying to set up too, and how they pressed their attacks.
For example:
Every time I was intercepted by Challenge, he would fly a reasonable distance out in front before turning in and making a 5-20 degree high off my nose, 11-1 head-on.
Snail was a wild card; came in from very high 9:30-10:30 or 1:30-2:30, and came in
really fast. Sometimes he would actually go out in front in and come in more or less 11:45-12:15. It's how he flew his setup that has him stand out to me. He would check his position relative to my own a lot (wing dips, course adjustments, etc). I've not encountered another interceptor who would keep checking like him.
This is how my encounters with these two usually went.
LedMagnet is one I've actually got
into a dog fight with,
with my bomber! That was hella fun!
He intercepted my set of Ju-88's in an F4U-1 and shot down two of my aircraft. Since I didn't have drones holding me back, and wasn't likely to return, "It's show time!". The fight lasted a min or so, and ended when I lost one of my horizontal stabilizers and tried to pull a maneuver too low for that. If I still had it, I would've completed it, but I ended up in the drink instead.
Got into another one with him, only in a B-26 instead. He had to let me go as he was running out of fuel, and oh boy, the B-26 is most definitely not suited for it. The Ju-88 is an A6M2 in comparison. Kept him occupied long enough to live though.
