This skin is a replacement for Serenity's original skin, which was based on an erroneous reference profile. I elected to find a similarly schemed aircraft from Jg 53.
Bf 109E-3 of Stab. II/Jg 53 at Mannheim-Sandhofen in late 1939. While most of the Luftwaffe was deployed to Poland in September 1939, Jg 53 was tasked with patrolling the French border of Germany. French and English aircraft were met over the border region beginning on September 8, and continued all the way up to the invasion of France itself in May 1940. II/Jg 53's most successful day during this period was March 31, 1940 when their Bf 109E's downed outright or damaged beyond repair seven Morane 406's in less than 5 minutes.
This Bf 109E-3 features the early camouflage scheme of RLM 70 and 71 greens over RLM 65 light blue. National insignias are of the 1939 standard in size, location, and design. The iconic Ace-of-Spades emblem was painted on the engine cowl. A large chevron with a small red "2" inside of it indicates that it was assigned to the Gruppe's XO. The tip of the spinner was painted red, the color for II Gruppe.
