Bf 110C over Dunkirk
« on: June 29, 2022, 11:26:08 PM »
Bf 110C of 5./Zg 26 during the Battle of France. Led by Theodor Rossiwall, the squadron saw action over France and Belgium in the spring of 1940. A particularly successful day was had on May 31. After escorting bombers in to the Dunkirk area, Rossiwall led 5 Staffel back to the beach for another sweep. He spotted a large, disorganized group of Spitfires beneath him and attacked. The squadron of 110's claimed 5 Spitfires shot down for no losses.

This 110C, 3U+GN, was painted in the early war pattern of RLM 70 and 71 over 65. The "Ace of Spades" emblem of 5./Zg 26 is applied to both sides of the nose. The aircraft's individual ID letter is painted red, the staffel color. The prop spinners are half black and half white and capped with red.
