External views

Hey aces high community!, i have a question about the gameplay here, does the external views allow for a lock on to the enemy target, or is it just the external views that are allowed in the arenas, the reason i ask is it is a factor as to choosing to spend gameplay time here, and although my personal presence should not be of factor, as a spectacle factor, as to the use of external views, is it more to view the fine plane you are flying, or does it allow views to the enemy during combat , hope this can be sure-d up soon enough and looking forward to flying here once more in a week or so!

Here's the thing-
In the public arenas, you are locked in to your cockpit view once your wheels leave the ground. Bombers have the option of external views. 
 
For switching between bomber turrets, the external views can be useful for visually tracking targets. As for fighters, you'll need to learn situational awareness and target tracking. 

I highly recommend flying with us even if you want external views! There's lots of skilled opposition to hone your Air Combat Maneuvering skills. It's not as hardcore as DCS and hence, is frequently a little more fun.
In my opinion, Aces High is the perfect balance between realism and fun!

I'm not sure I quite follow your question correctly, but in the Melee Arena (I still want to call it the Main Arena), external view of your fighter plane is disabled while in the air. It is enabled only while it is on the ground.

For most bombers, external view is enabled throughout. I had read somewhere on this forum years ago that this was for the purpose of simulated situational awareness as many bombers in real life (such as the B17 or B24) had numbers of crew members aboard each aircraft keeping watch from various gunner positions- whereas a fighter pilot was limited to awareness from one position: cockpit. A similar realism and historical accuracy reason was stated for why one player can fly a set of three bombers instead of just being limited to one.

thank you for youre response,actually youre response is music to my ears, both thndregg and tig, its external views in a fighter that is the offputting part,so to learn that this is non existant is great news, in a bomber however is more understandable and tolerable- See you in the skies soon! thank you for youre response also
