Interesting, now do total cost of ownership, since that's what Semi owners care about.

Back when my step Dad was owner /operator, the best paying loads were longer distance. I would assume that is still fact.

I would also assume that since we EV car batteries need replacement in approximately 8 to 9 years, that the trucks would be much sooner due to cycles. How much is a battery replacement on the trucks?

Hah, for real. Plenty of industries get subsidies...but we'll use EV because it fits the narrative!

So how much did the EV industry pay in taxes last year?

The Texas oil and natural gas industry alone paid $24.7 billion in taxes and royalties. The royalties go to schools, counties, cities, and the state.

some companies pay no taxes on billions of earnings. Musk paid 11 billions while some other billionaires paid very little.

I wonder how much the oil company paid in royalties as opposite to income.

and wonder who actually pays the royalties since we are the ones buying gas for our cars.

you don't have to buy a tesla for the same reason I hate Mac n cheese, that's some nasty food.

Governments gave oil companies $5 trillion in subsidies over the last 10 years.

You can't be serious. Oil and gas producers are a net consumer of government money in the US (taxes minus subsidies), not a net payer. And its not even close.

Read it in Forbes.

There lies the major issue with many people. They think corporations do not pay any taxes. Those folks more then likely have never had a business of any size.

that explains why you asked if ev industry paid taxes.

and Forbes is being ambiguous.

Subsidies or tax breaks? They are two different things often confused with each other.

No, that's a political definition.

subsidy = I give you some money
tax break = I don't take as much money off you

1 zillion dollars in tax break is the same as a zillion subsidy.
around here the major who have a million retirement bonus to the city accountant to retire because she was being investigated. build warehouse in every empty lot an some mobile home parks.  guess who paid for the tax breaks and subsidy, we did  higher ten rents, more traffic higher property taxes.

and who knows when they're gonna pay property taxes, all contracts are confidential.

so yes they're both the same we pay for then.

Not it's not. A subsidy is paid to you from government money that the government already has, regardless of your businesses revenue or profit or tax bill.

A tax break requires your business to generate revenue/profit/a tax bill, it is effectively a discount on the money you have to give the government - from money that you already have.

For example:
Tesla, in the USA they claim they operate at a loss. They pay no tax (not a tax break btw), and receive subsides for each car produced (the subsidy operates completely independently of the tax liability). If the US government were to give Tesla a tax break it would be worthless as their tax liability is already at zero.

Weta (film making company in NZ). They generate a revenue and profit, they are liable for say $100 million in tax, the government gives them a 'discount' on the tax (a tax break) and they pay $60 million. No subsidies.

Assuming the money used to pay tax is yours before the tax is calculated or due/calculated is something you might expect in a fully communist country.

you need no revenue for a property tax break which is what is used here. a federal tax credit is harder to get, mostly included in pork barrel.
different countries.
