I'll tell you my honest answer, Sparky.
It's because most rules are subjective. They just are. I think Toad would tell you himself that it was a bit of a troll - but in good fun. Not really meant to incite anyone.
Rules and moderation are all subjective though there's just no way around it.
I have mentioned before that this forum could be run just as cleanly (if that's the word) with about 4 or 5 rules. There doesn't have to be a litany of specific things, but a broad set of maybe 4 guidelines.
For instance, I don't think any subjects, like politics, should be off limits. For one thing, that's way to broad of a rule. Anything can be considered politics. Is climate change political? I'd say yes. Very much so.
Instead the rules could be meant to cover behavior and not specific infractions.
1. No spamming
2. no personal attacks
3. no NSFW content
4. use common sense. This is a family friendly website and this is a business.
That's where I would start. That's the foundation of pretty much everything. Then you moderate it with consistency and you give reasons for moderation at times when things may need to be clarified.
Number one thing other than the rules is consistency in moderation. A moderator should be known and be reasonably available.
The O'Club is a place to discuss things not related to the game. There are 50 other subforums for game discussion. Nobody has to come to the O'Club .
I also suggested that the O'Club, or a new forum like it should be membership by request only. If you don't request to be in that forum you won't even see, it. Make that new forum have a version of the 4 rules.
Why not? Everyone would be happy.
