the first flight of the Vought F6U "Pirate" on 10/2/1946. This aircraft pioneered the use of turbojet power and afterburner along with composite construction materials, however it was underpowered and judged unsuitable for combat.
The Pirate would be used for testing, and there were 33 manufactured before the project was cancelled in 1950. There is only one survivor, shown in the photos below at the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, FL.
