I have a 1660 Ti and I'm happy with it. That said, according to benchmarks the 2060 is somewhat faster and can handle lighting effects a tad better. But it's also more expensive, ~200 v.s. ~300 or so. Both are decent cards for 60 Hz monitors and resolutions up to 1440p or so. If you want a faster monitor, the 2060 is a safer bet.

For VR I guess neither is good enough.

I have the GTX 1060 6GB card and it runs AH with all the bells and whistles, and has no trouble running VR.

For AH both are plenty sufficient. But for the rest of the life I'd recommend the best affordable. And even that may become too old and weak before the player quits.

So I used the 1060 3GB before. For AH it was running it on 2k above 120 fps. I upgraded for other games to a 3060ti and i think if you consider VR this would be a good card. If you are planning on just playing AH on 1080p I think the 1660 is sufficient.

Tip, check if it will fit your motherboard:

I would skip the 2060 and go for the 2070 Super.  You can get them on Ebay for around $250.
It may sound like a lot, but it holds up well with current games.  I'm using an EVGA 2070-S and can run MSFS-2020 without issues. (50-60 fps)
You won't have any problems running AHIII with all settings at Max.

Game Id's:
AHIII: Coogan
RDR2: Coogan_Bear
MSFS-2020: Coogan Bear

Ran Half Life Alyx on a 1660 with pretty damn good performance. I imagine that still one of the more intensive games to run in VR.

I enjoy looking for things on sites like that but also at the same time every one of those sites are nothing but affiliate links. I just have to make sure I copy/paste exactly what im looking for on a specific site and bypass the affiliate link crap

Yeah bypass the affiliate crap. But you are at least sure your system supports the new upgrade if you select all your current and future parts.

Last time I upgraded mine a few years ago, bought a motherboard/cpu combo, and the ram I went by what was compatible using the motherboard manual. The rest was pick and choose from various sites. I put windows 7 back on it since I have no desire to go to 10 or 11. I was looking at motherboards the other day, but they have gotten expensive and seems most are now shiny/decorated/flashy lights/looks like it came out of a ufo/etc. None of that does me any good to pay for the extra pretty things when nobody will see it as it is in an enclosed black metal case. I bought one before for $60 or $70 and it worked perfectly fine for years.
