I just found out last night from my grandpa that we have a Congressional Medal of Honor winner in our family!
His name was Clayton Slack. All I know was that he was the only private ever to win the award in WWI. Supposedly he captured an entire German platoon by himself at the battle of Verdun.
In 1963 he was a guest of JFK at the White House.
Pretty neat.
