SA via F3 mode from a gun to observe immediate threats.

Proper lead on incoming attacks making quick minor adjustments to find the hits.

Flying bombers in a way that takes away the easiest shots from attackers.

Proper zoom for distance to maximize precision. Too much or too little zoom makes a lot of difference

Practice, practice, practice over and over again until instinct starts to take over and you begin anticipating what will happen before it happens.

A big giveaway is the tank tracks that can be seen, and followed from ground or air in not too dense forests.
Exhaust from engines are another giveaway, many tanks require engines to be revving in order to turn the turrets quickly (and not hand-cranked which is slow as ****. Case-mate designs which do not need it within their firing arc, but if needs to turn the whole vehicle when outside of it they need to start it.

Starting a cold diesel engine in colder weather produce so much smoke you can hardly see outside of the tank, pretty much how the later Russian tank smoke screen works injecting diesel into the engine.

In one of these threads I remember seeing an aerial photograph of a grassy field that had seen tank battle.  The tank tracks were extremely visible.  Wish we could have something like that available in addition to dust/smoke/etc.  I also think it would be a good idea for gameplay to not have the fast turret turning unless your engine was running if applicable.

If you think you are having a 1v1 in the Main Arena, your SA has failed you.

All of this is true…….in real life.
Also in real life aircraft left contrails at higher alts, wreckage stayed where it was until removed/salvaged.

But this is an online game.  I remember talking on the phone with Skuzzy about it, especially the tracks left by GV’s.  IIRC, he told me that to implement the contrails and GV tracks, it would end up causing a lot of players to have to buy/build higher end more powerful systems and would cause lag……thus decreasing playability, or the ability to play at all, from those with older or less powerful computers.
I agree with everything you said, just throwing out the fact that the issue has been discussed time and time again, and that was the answer I got when actually talking to someone within HiTech Creations.
A welcome compromise in my opinion would be to increase GV icon visibility range to 3K, more than it is now, but still half what it was way way back when, during the time that players lobbied HT and Pyro to decrease the range from 6K downward.

Range in vehicles should be determined by real optics from the tank itself and it should add time, that way you need to peek to range the enemy tank.

A vertical red bar to note the enemy presence, from a certian - depending on the optics of the vehicle.

That would put some inferior optic designs with a good gun at an disadvantage compared.

Maybe I'm into a 'too realistic approach' but then again, this is supposed to be a sim and not Battlefield type of game.

I've been asking couple of questions exactly about realism but some old gamers have got peas in their nostrils because of it. There are those who seem to prefer game instead of a simulator.

An age-old discussion, probably with an equal number of proponents on each side.

I'm all for adding certain aspects of realism.  I don't want the game to turn into more work (like the actual aspects of flying a plane for instance). :rofl

Yet we have bomb and rocket craters left everywhere that disappear after so long.  No reason we couldn’t make gv tracks do the same thing.

There is no we :old: only the grand game maker

And he has no desire to pour any great effort into a game that's been and will continue to be a honey hole just the way it is for so long
