P-40N flown by Roger Farrell of the 7th Fighter Squadron, 49th Fighter Group in February 1944. The 49th FG was based at Gusap Airfield in Papua New Guinea. On Feb 3rd 1944, Farrell scored his third and final victory over the Japanese base at Wewak, New Guinea.
Farrell's P-40 has the wonderful "Island Dream" nose art painted on the port side cowling. The text is surrounded by two colors, red and blue, the side number, 15 may have had the same treatment, but at the scale of the skin it looks comical so I elected to leave the number plain white. The leading edge of the wing and tail, including the underside of the horizontal stabilizers, are painted white; a 5th Air Force IFF measure. Camoflage colors are OD green with medium green scallops on the leading and trailing edges of the wings. Some portrayals of Island dream have a blue stripe on the tail and photo reference for this plane does not show the tail. I have elected to use the stripe. The holes for the auxiliary intake on the cowling were filled with white putty and sanded smooth, a common field modification seen on 49th FG P-40N's. I have no idea the reason for it though. Not seen in the screenshots is the US roundel painted on the wheel covers.
