GHA Nuts!! Ran outa sounds with one plane to go!!!
« on: March 08, 2001, 05:17:00 AM »
Just when I'm ready to say "It's OUT!" I go and run outa sounds! I checked all of Fscott's sounds and none fit a D9, Staga (that bum) added a king-hell echo to most of his, so those are out (I can't remove it). And to boot I can't find any worth while start and shutdown sounds!!! Yee gods is this frustrating. 260+ sounds all told and I'm THREE short! YAGH!!!

If you've got any start or shutdown sounds I can use post 'em here. The run sound I'll find or create here shortly. Since the Ta-152 uses a DB-603 engine I can just copy my Bf-109 engine sounds into it and it'll work.

I hate when this happens!

It would be my guess that the D9/Ta152 will be using the Jumo 213.

Fscott I hate to burst your bubble here, but the Ta-152 used a DB-603 engine. Only the Dora used a Jumo 213A-1 engine, which means you can literally use any Bf-109 sound and modify it to work. The Macchi 202 and 205 used DB-series engines which means you can cheat and use a Bf-109 engine run. That's what I did, after turning the pitch down a smidge.

There were a couple different engines used by the Ta152, but the Ta152H-1 used the Jumo 213E-1 which developed 2,250hp with MW50. This is the version we are getting. You may be referring to the Ta152C with used teh DB engine.

Same with the D9. Several different versions, one using the Jumo 213A-1, tnhat's the one we are most likely getting.

Also you may want to look at the performance charts that Verm posted on another thread. It lists teh various engines for each FW model.

Fscott:

I'm used to seeing guys quote the DB engine for the Ta-152. That explains my error; oops!

Staga:

I don't remember ever hearing a large echo in those sounds before. Some of the ones I've had from your page for a while now don't have any echo. Yet when I visited looking for sounds more recently they did have that echo. If I could find a way to kill that echo I'd use them.

My siggy pic says it all.

Why not just use a good Ju-88 sounds for the Dora and 152? I used Mitsu's Ju-88 wav, and it sounds great. Jumo211, Jumo 213, shouldnt be too much difference.

Any sound editor worth it's weight, like Goldwave, can turn the pitch of a sound down or up. The catch is some sounds don't like it when you do that; they'll pop or click like crazy. I found this out when doing work on my sound pack. The only way around this is to clip parts of the sound off and loop-play the sound again. I save a copy of any edited sound in another directory so I can simply go back and remove any changes. One thing you can't change back is a sound you've cut parts out of to remove a nasty pop or click.

If you want to get more complicated, you can use a low and high bypass filter on the same sound. In Goldwave save the sound as another name before you start. Run a low bypass filter and save it under a different name, then re-open the original sound. Run a high bypass filter and save this as something else. Now you've got the original, the low end, and the high end all seperate. Using this method you can find pops or clicks a lot more easily. Removing them is a sinch too. Once you're done paste-mix the high end with the low end at 100% volume and it should come out fine. If you hear another pop or click then it's a problem with both sounds being combined. THAT'S a real pain to deal with, and I haven't figured out how to fix it yet.
