Very choppy playback on film viewer
« on: November 14, 2023, 08:03:50 AM »
Anyone experience this?  Never used to have problems, now it chops very often on playback.
Nice computer rig, very high frame rate when playing, no jumps at all.

looks like the playback is sped up so fast that its skipping frames on the video trying to catch up

I recently have a somewhat similar issue, which I’m trying to solve. I think it does have to do with frames. My issue has a timing, every 3 seconds it jerks. Never had this before. The game is fine, fv not so much.

I did notice when I play it in slow motion it almost totally stops. Rate at 100% its not liking. Something is piling up.

When searching for a fix, remember, adjustments in game settings affects the fv too.
I reset my vid card setting back to default, no joy. Process of elimination.
Going to have to change settings on at a time.

Since I never had it before I’m also thinking a windiws or some software update. Maybe something in background hogging cpu/gpu.

If I find my fix I’ll post it here.

Yup, having same issue too.  Played the same films in the past with no issues, but as of ~2 months ago, the same film files now stutter sometimes.

Curious what vid cards users with this issue are using.
I have Nvidia (3060ti I think). Bad memory, but I think I may have got an update about 2 mos ago.

I even had problems viewing video clips I made. They are massive files, but didn’t have that issue before either.

I set my vid card settings back to default, made a few settings to test and can now view my clips smoother. I won’t post those settings until I fully verify they worked across the board.

Also note. Last week logging into AH I had to verify AH in my firewall, which tells me something changed. Could be wrong.

Coming to the end of hellish work schedule the last 5 months. Will have a lot of time to get my ducks in a row. 3 more days of hell, then basically 2-3 months of down time.

im using 3060 as well, rarely update my drivers.  But I also rarely watch my films so i'm not sure when it started.

The problem I have is limited to AHFV. The game itself doesn't have any issues, in fact it's very smooth. Keep in mind I use a lot of other player's films, and also jump around from plane to plane,... so that opens it's own can of worms.

I've tried a lot of things since the last post,... disabling background apps including anti-virus, resetting vid card to default. I started changing settings one at a time in Nvidia control panel.

SO FAR, I got the best response when I implemented these 3 settings. I'd have to walk backwards to narrow it down, but here is were I left off with a more noticeable improvement.

Texture filtering - negative LOD bias: Allow
Shader Cache Size: Unlimted
Triple Buffering: On

I do remember some time ago around making my last video, probably after, setting "Texture filtering - negative LOD bias: Clamp".
I've never used this setting until now "Shader Cache Size: Unlimted"

Now I just see the jerking in certain planes, which I attribute to that player's lag/latency.

Just passing along finds for my issue that MAY help others.
