Watchman's Micro Freeze Fix
« on: October 25, 2024, 12:26:07 PM »
Watchman posted a fix for the stutters on one of the Aces High Facebook groups.  It is a private group so I can't see the post but here is a description of the fix he sent to my squad:
Watchman here. I found a fix for the micro-freeze that everyone seems to experience. I’ve tried logging on the Aces High Forum. Still working on that of course. But the least I could do would be to share it with those I have Contacts for.
Open up device manager. A scroll down to software device. Expand that. You should see Microsoft Device Association Root enumerator. Right click and disable this. Restart your computer if you need to. Some do some don’t. This should eliminate the micro-freeze. It is nothing more that Bloat ware that came with the H25 update.

I have not tried this as I'm currently using DX9, but CAVALRY has tried it and reported it worked for him.

Going to try this because it happened right when I was about to drop a bomb last night but nothing happened when i pressed the button during the freeze. Still had my 4K bomb after the freeze.

I did this yesterday, went about 1 1/2 hours with out a freeze, then I got 2 within about 10 minutes. That is still and improvement.

I also found this listed on 2 other boards while researching what it is and does. Basically, in short it's used when using old drivers. I have not tried it yet.
Common goto educated assumption: "looking for something that isn't there.".

"Microsoft Device Association Root Enumerator is an enumerator that assigns a value to the rooted piece of software when a new driver tries to install its software on your computer.

If you remove the Microsoft Device Association Root Enumerator from your computer, some part of the device’s driver you are using will not be installed on your computer. However, for the most part, your computer will work just fine.

The only serious problem one can face if they end up removing this driver is that some old ports and MIDI devices won’t work. This enumerator is used to run old devices such as serial ports, TWAIN devices, and Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) devices. So, if you are using one of these devices, disabling MIDI is not a good option for you."

It's also possible plural issues can be true.

There are so many things wanting to update and check that getting them all can sometimes be a challenge. I found most modern software I've installed wants to default to an auto-update. Disabling the bkg process and/or (Disabling or Manual) can be easier than searching their menus.

Did this, including re-starting computer.  No impact on the micro-freezes.

AVG Ultimate 2024 | Antivirus+Cleaner+VPN | 1 PC, 2 Year Subscription [Download] is about $20 dollars on Amazon. This is what i use to to fix my computer issues. Such as disabling background programs, cleaning up browser data, etc. Make sure to disable Automatic Window updates on your computer settings. AVG works wonders. VPN is a great feature because it hides your computer from hackers.

Whatever this was it definitely helped. I did the fix above and I had no freeze for about the first hour and then I had a couple small nodes after that.

Does not look like it’s the complete solve but it for sure helped quite a lot.

I had limited the length of the freeze using Nvidia 3d settings. But I use performance settings and signal is not passing through other processes. I did see a glitch type freeze after using this tweak but nothing to complain about. IN other words I'm might be one more step to faster glitches instead of 2 second freezes.

The are infinite variables in troubleshooting this issue.

1) It's not secluded to AH, a lot of the reading I did was from other game forums or about other full screen games.
2) We can't nail it down to hardware because nowhere I look people actually post their hardware, except a few here,.. like is it totally Nvidia, DX or Windows related.
3) Not every freeze seen by others is caused by the same issue nor same type of freeze. You may fix one issue but others still remain.

Yipi has a good idea to use AVG or Ccleaner to optimize and put processes to sleep. They are both similar in what they can do, but both make it much easier.

Point being, it's a complicated issue to solve.

Looks like some folks report disabling both Microsoft Device Association Root Enumerator and Microsoft RRAS Root Enumator help with stutters.

Both seem to be associated with legacy hardware and drivers.
