Operation Pedestal
« on: October 30, 2024, 11:57:22 AM »
Can we consider operation Pedestal as a scenario.

I am thinking the first half supported by Aircraft carriers and Battleships.

Allied:
Sea Hurricane (Limited Cannons 1 per cv the rest machine gun)
Martlet (F4F-4)
BF N2 (Swordfish substitute to attack Italian ships)
4 x Aircraft Carrier Group (Therefore 16 destroyers and 4 cruisers)
2 x Battleship

Axis:
BF109 E4 (No Bombs)
BF110 C-4b (No Bombs)
HE111 H
JU 88 A4 (Limited numbers max 3 groups of 3)
2 x Carrier Group without aircraft. (To substitute for the Italian Navy)
(I am not sure we should include the C202 and or the BF109F but its possible)

As a start. Victory or defeat is keeping ships afloat.

Any comments ?

Clearly the Martlet and Sea Hurricane without cannon were outclassed by the 109 and Ju88 but I think it is an interesting challenge nevertheless Further more they will be typicly as CV aircraft close to their spawn point. If the Carrier groups are sailing close enough together with the Battleships the AA should be formidable. In addition I would suggest only the Allies have dot radar. :old:

I would suggest the frame should be decided on how many destroyers are sunk as substitutes for the armed merchant ships in the convoy: If it is possible to set that up and therefore CV's will be able to re spawn. Destroyers sunk would have to be as a result of direct attack not a re spawn. In pedestal it was 14 merchant ships of which I believe 10 were sunk but this was still considered an allied victory. Perhaps 12 out of 16 destroyers sunk by aircraft or naval gunfire and 3 cruisers for an axis victory. That sounds allot but we know it is easy to kill even a cruiser in a virtual Kamikaze attack. However allies could win with decent spot radar and height discipline with bombers intercepted and 5 inch guns being manned. The emphasis for axis would be to damage carriers to deprive the fleet of spot radar but not sink them due to the way the AH works. British carriers were relatively immune to dive bombing anyway due to armored decks and often fell foul to submarines.

I am very interested in supporting the Scenario team  :salute

Let me know how I can help.

I love early-war stuff.  I'll fly about anything, including B5N torpedo bombers (which I love doing, by the way).

Unfortunately, the player base preference is such that we don't feel that we can fill early-war scenarios.  Other than perhaps Battle of Britain.

Also, scenarios these days, we can count on about 60 players, of which about 12 will fly attack or bombers.  And have to design to fit that.

Whichever one it was, the 12 hour one.   The one with Dantoo, IIR?  Or Ditto???  He played 'Top Hat Control' for 11 hours straight....at EU time zone for allied. Man that was fun!!!! Accent included! It made immersion off the charts!  Was also when I started with VR, hehe I had 2 days in VR before that scenario.  My neck was sore for DAYS!!!!!!😍     Best memories from a scenario to date. circa 2015 ish?  All this rambling to say this.....AGREED and +1 on that suggestion Sir!!! :aok

I believe that was 2017, I led a 109 Gruppe for the full twelve and by the end of it my hand was a claw around my joystick but it was a great time.
