Which VR currently works with AH?
« on: April 05, 2025, 03:16:37 PM »
My Meta Quest 3 worked for a few days, with bad quality, then stopped working after a Meta Link update. I can't find a way to revert it, but I don't really want to, since I can still return it.
I spent way too much time and money to make it work, and returned it. Frustrating.

Who is currently using a VR set, and which one still works in AH?

Has anyone bought a VR set recently?

I really want to try to play in VR and not having to buy a big monitor.

Thank you.

good to hear.

do you use the Meta Link software? If so, do you know if it's the same for the quest 3?

thanks!!

Yes, this is how I start the game.

1, start the headset
2, start meta quest link software
3, Click on "quick settings" on the home screen (button with Time, Wifi icon, and Battery symbol)
4, Click on Link PC, should open a popup with "PC Connected" and a highlighted "Launch" button
5, Click Launch button
6, On home screen, under Apps, click Aces High button
7, lift headset and click on popup asking if you want to use VR

Game starts and off you go.

Hi.
-I believe the home screen is from SteamVR, right?
-Do you use the Air Link or PC cable connect?
-Do you see AH with the curved screen as in the attached pic?

That's how I was doing it, and it was working for days. Then, the only thing that changed was the software update of the headset. From one moment to another, anything I tried did not work.
Now the only way to make it "work" is through Vive VR or OpenVR, which makes it look like you're inside a bottle. Everything is spherical. Impossible to play.

I also got an "Aces High does not support your headset" when trying with Steam. I didn't get that before.

Anyway, I'm not sure I want to use VR anymore because:
1- The feeling of nausea and eye strain is not fun. I still have it after days of playing, no adaptation. I bought a brand new laptop with the hope of seeing if these symptoms would go away, but I didn't get the chance to try.
2- Yesterday I played with a big TV, and even though the resolution is poor, I suddenly realized I was hitting targets almost the same way I did when I stopped playing 15 years ago.
In the past few days, in VR, I couldn't believe how bad my gunnery was. I thought, "It couldn't have taken that long to get it back, even after 15 years of absence from the game".
I think there is a response delay with VR, which makes the targeting of a moving enemy difficult.

When was the last time your headset had a software update?

Anyway, thank you for your input.

In the game, goto options/preferences/GUI there is a drop box for VR Surface. Mine is set on Sphere, the other option is cylinder. Yours looks like it is set on cylinder. Try switching that.

I dont use steam, so there may be to differences there.

As for the sickness and eye strain, I get the sickness if I stop using the headset for a while, like the months hockey is on   :x but getting back into it doesnt take more than a few sessions to get back into it. Eye stain is from looking at the screens. With the head set on you have to learn to look "through" the screen like they are not even there. That will most likely also help your aim. I also think that some people who complain about "looking through the crosshatch of a window screen" are doing the same thing. You have to let go and just look past, out into the VR world. It comes with practice/use.

The Quest can use either the mobile app or the desktop app. Be sure you're using the desktop app to run AH3.

Unless things have changed, there are two ways to start AH in non meta headsets.  One is with your membership through Steam. and the other with your membership through AH using SteamVR.

I am still tinking about the Bigscreen Beyound 2.  Very pricey but cool.  I think it weighs 6-7 oz featuring OLED screens albeit smaller than pimax.

You can also use ViveVR and OpenVR in both AHdx11 and Steam.
It seems impossible to run AH through Oculus with the new upades on the headset. I reset it to the factory default after disabling automatic updates, and it updated anyway at startup.

Be careful with new VR headsets. I did not expect to have only the option of playing with OpenVX, which is much worse than Oculus.
I had to return my meta quest 3.
I hope you can try your Bigscreen and return it if it doesn't work properly with AH.

It looks like I'll be investing in a large TV that works well with my new laptop and GTX 4070.

Let us know how it went.

I have a Quest 1 and a 2 - Quest 2 works WAAAY better than the 1st gen. I also put a piece of tape over the senor in between the two eye pieces so that when you lift your headset to sip on your beer, it doesn't freak out. Very handy hack. :)

That setting is just for the text box and radio box. Not for the game.

The "roundness" comes from the Vive VR and OpenVr.

There is a debug tool that you can use in the Oculus link software that lets you tweak a bunch of settings. I found if very helpful in increasing the clarity of my VR in multiple games.

You can find it in C:\Program Files (x86)\Oculus\Support\oculus-diagnostics
