I'm not disagreeing that tactics are important. They are, very much so. That can amplify more advanced technology.

Being able to see 360, even through the plane is a huge advantage. And of course there is little doubt that finding and tracking bandits is computer assisted in the F-35. If not now it surely will be soon.

As I type this I have a robot cleaning my floors and a robot mowing my lawn outside.

I'm wondering how much longer we are going to put expensive humans into fighter jets.

Its hard to see how tactics are going to overcome the reality that a 5th generation fighter can often spot a 4th generation fighter at around 70 miles separation and not be visible to the opponent until the gap is less than 20 miles. 6th generation fighters are being considered that fly in the centre of a swarm of drones that are not limited by G's on the human body.

I know this probably isn't much the same but.

Back in the day when flight of the intruder came out I would fly the commie migs and fight against my buddies.

I had an idea of where they would be attacking. I would orbit at very low alt about 50 miles away. Once the GCI called them I would accelerate to max speed, flying just off the deck to the target area. Once I located the enemy I would zoom up from under them and launch my heatseekers before diving back to the deck and retreating along the same route I had just come from.

I would say I got one of the enemy planes more then 60% of the time and I survived prob 90% of the time

I have robot vac  but I have like an acre. How much can those robo mowers do?

Also, I think you're right, The days of piloted planes is over. No g-force limits on ai.

Even back when I was in many years ago the Tomcat could see stuff that the E2Cs could see without turing on their radar. Data from towed array, helos and ASW planes was all relayed to supercomputers via sattilite to supercomputers located on land to processs acoustic signatures.

That being said I don't think either side is that far advanced.

It's getting like being in ww2 with ww1 weaponry..

What was once strength will no longer be..just look at the role of tanks in Ukraine...

Something tells me we might find the same thing with our aircraft carriers if they are ever drawn into a real battle against a real opponent that actually wants us eliminated..

Be sure there are smart people continually analyzing threats. Also be sure there is technology being kept secret. By all players.

Pakistan said a bit ago they shot down two Indian fighters. No dog in this fight but I will cheer on US made jets. Assuming it wasn't with SAMs which is certainly possible.
