Another day at the Range
« on: Yesterday at 09:44:15 AM »

Old guy in the middle is me, my son to the left and a friend to the right. I'm the one without a belly!  :)

Wish I had a before and after picture. You would be amazed.

I'm up to shooting 35 arrows. Last year it took all I had to shoot one and then some guy had to pull it out of the bail for me.

If you look closely, we're shooting at paper cups pinned to a paper plate.

I have a 35# recurve I am trying to hit a barn with...

As hell is over and I can stay outside for more than 10 minutes I am looking forward to getting back at it..

I shoot 65# and 75# PSE compound bows, both with 65% let off. I'm not shooting currently, as I haven't completed my PT/rehab to my satisfaction, so I don't expect my performance would be satisfactory. I am doing some new exercises that may change that.

Thanks everyone!

It's a Mathews set at 48 lbs. with a 50% let off. My son and I were out shooting today. I was less than stellar. Had a good time though. I may post some pictures.

I have a recurve bow and a tree line about 50 yrs away. I try shooting turkey off the back deck, but the wife gets pissed. I haven't hit one yet  Still working on that.

What does 50% let off mean?

Does that mean that bow pulls like a 24lb recurve?

The let off is what the tension drops to in the hold position. So, with 50% let off, an 80# draw weight becomes 40#.

That's gotta help..

Took a bit to get used to the pull on the recurve but I was up to 60 shots at a pop...10 x 6 as I  only have 6 arrows

It's very zen for me  :aok

It does help. I can remember having had to hold a draw for a few minutes to get a shot on a deer.

These days, they now allow devices to hold the draw on a compound bow, and they no longer require you to be certified disabled to use a crossbow. I never used a device on a compound bow, seems very strange. With all the damage from surgery and radiation, I could now qualify for a crossbow, if it were necessary. They also removed the 0.24 caliber minimum for modern weapons, it allows AR-15 fans to hunt deer with them.
