Apology to Pongo
« on: May 25, 2000, 05:25:00 AM »
last night I got rather Pissed Off  at Pongo and said a few things I shouldn't have.

After driving up that damned hill at field 11, in a panzer, (over an hour of driving time), Pongo lifted in a F4U-1C and killed me in less than 30 seconds after his lift off.

After calming down a couple hours later, I realize that he was only doing his job.

While it is frustrating as hell, it was wrong of me to berate him.

Apologies Pongo, You are a class act.

Greybeard.....

Pongo isn't the only class act....<salute> to you.

If you want to save some tank transit time, get mighty1 to show you the Field 27 downhill at 200 mph routine, which gets you to that base within ack range in under a minute.

It's a riot, as long as you keep your tank in "ground effect" coming down the hill.

Regards,
Badger

LOL, yes that 27 trick is neat. Those panzers were coming down at such a rate last night that it seemed more like the time of lemmings were upon us

heheh, as a Rook, I seldom get to play at 27, but there's a couple places I've seen for those hi speed dashes down the hill on my side of things...

Luv hitting the flat at full tilt and getting 50 yds or so of air time...  but ya damn sure better hit it on the square

Hitting at the angle hurts...

BTW, I quite often berate pilots for upping planes to take out a lone tank inb on their field. Nuthing personal ya understand,

Guys,, if yer field isn't under direct attack by other planes,, why not use a tank??

The tanker has probably driven for 15-30 minutes, and taking the easy kill with a plane is scorewhoring in my mind.

I can understand it if the vhangar is down,,  but to up a f4, or 190 to take out a lone tank is overkill.. and not any fun at all for the tank thats inb. (more than 3 tanks I can see upping plane, single tank no..)

Besides it takes very little skill to kill a tank with a plane. Especially if plane is equipped with cannons.

Its too late SC I quit!
Really though if guys want to have a tank fight I am all for leaving them alone, But when a base is being vulched and a tank is just about to crest the hill and make life really bad.. Its time to dust off the 1c.
It unfortunatly is the only plane I have any success against tanks with. And it is rediculously easy. It seems there is no middle ground.
Thnks for the note

Chivalry is a luxury we cannot always afford to give.

The last few times I have been on Knights have been hard pressed to keep alive. I spent a lot of time flying, dying, watching the dar, looking for the two-front attack on sparsely defended fields. Sure enough they came. I would pop over to deal with whatever incursion it might be.

Under those conditions, if I saw a tank I would kill it ASAP with whatever firepower I had available. I'm not looking for a fair fight there. I don't care how long he drove/flew.
