I'm very much looking foward to WWIIonline.

I'm curious just how they are going to run this "virtual battlefield" if 10,000 players aren't logged in and how they are going to manage missions etc.  I love the idea, I'm skeptical of the execution.

I really like the thought of a historic sim, with real world plane match ups in a real world environment.  The only thing that keeps me in Warbirds is the Scenerios and S3s.  I'm really looking foward to those things in Aces High.

I'm not real crazy about there choice of first campaigns though.  BoB uggggh I hate early war ETO.  Now if they had choosen early Pacific (CBT for instance) that would really pique my interest.

It's going to be really interesting how all this washes out with AH, WBIII and WWIIonline.  One thing that worries me though, is of all three AH is going to be the only one without Mac support.  I think that is really going to hurt when WWIIonline and WBIII hits.

First theatre will not be BoB, it will be the Battle of France.  Their stated 2nd theatre will be China/Burma.

I plan on playing in WWIIOL, but have decided to stay on the ground as a grunt.  Being a wargamer of many years this is quite the opportunity at trying some online 'wargaming' from an operational sense.  Of course, I'll have to prove myself as a tactical leader before moving up the command ladder, but time will tell.  Oh, and of course, I'll be Soviet

Nope, Aces High will be my online sky.

If I remember correctly, WBIII, has been talked about and talked about and talked about, not for 2 weeks, but for 2 years!
And a onlinegame that will have about 3000 people online, WWII?
and thoose Zillion macusers might bleed mr HT and his gang, out? Im sceptic.
Iīm pretty sure of that you have to wait atleast 1 year for both WWII and WWIII.
And much to your suprise, maybe, even longer for the Macversions!
(Frownin at the thought about what would have been if this game had a macversion to it!)
Speakin for myself, I would rather stay in this community, supporting HTC, knowing they have  a couple of Aces up their sleeve, then jumpin to a halffinished product with a ZIllion people whinin about, this and that!
AH rules the sky, the ground, and soon the 7 seas!

.......it will have:
small ammo load.
weak guns
slow planes
tanks
boats
other slow stuff...

Yes true, but for those of us who are looking for early war scenarios, this is great!  WWII sims don't have bi-planes either, but that does not mean bi-planes don't have a place and are not fun

Crab,

I didn't mean to imply that HT made a bad decision not supporting the Mac.  In fact I think it was a smart thing to do at the time.  With the other guys talking about new wizbang sims coming, HT actually got a product out the door first.  And I like not having to wait for a Mac port before they release a new version, however alot of dedicated sim fliers are Mac guys and we're going to lose them to other sims without Mac support in AH.

As to WBIII and WWIIonline, I'm willing to bet a few beers that you'll see both of those before the end of June.  I don't expect much from WBIII except a new graphics engine, HS has already stated that WBIII will not introduce anything new in the way of game play at least initally.

I think that AH is the overall best sim out there right now, I just like to see more of my friends and squad mates from WB be able to fly in AH with their Macs.  If ya read Argo's board you'll see posts from guys that would love to try AH, but they're Mac users and have no choice but to stick with WB and they are chomping at the bit for someone to give them a Mac flight sim option

Karnak,

Battle of France/Battle of Briton, same thing as far as the air war is concerned in my opinion.  Both are Spit 1a and Hurricane 1s fighting Emils.

CBT should be cool but I'm sure that is least a year away.

MEEEC!!! ERROR!!! no Spitfire MKI fought over France!!! well they did over dunkerke but based on England, so that is only a little spot...

BoF had Bloch 406, Dewoitines, Blenheims, Hurricanes, Potez bombers, Defiants, Fairey Battles (fairey deaths)...versus 109D and 109Es (yep ,D versions were still used in Luftwaffe) and Me110 (still in a victorious role)...Ju87s, Do17s,Ju88s, He111s,Ju52s...I find BoF one of the most interesting in WWII (of course I fly for a german squad...and Germans have the edge here). What can do a organized air force over a most numerous but bad organiced enemy.

and BoB...well I find it simulated until death...I am tired of BoBs...but a battle of france is a good thing.

I wont go to WWIIOL, I find that its trying to bite way more that can eat. Too ambitious...to reach so many things you must go step by step (as HTC is doing right now), not open the mouth and try to bite hard. But, of course first lets see then talk...

But I am pretty sure I'll stick with AH and HTC.

" I love the idea, I'm skeptical of the execution."

That sentence says it all for me too. Of course I'm interested in what they have going on. Very much so. Competition is always good. Where would WWII aircombat/flight simming be if it weren't for CK/WB's ?  But if people look at this WWII Online sim and make the mistake of  imagining it in this perfect little ordered online world then these folks are naive and fooling themselves that  this sim will be the Holy Grail of online WWII type entertainment.
Some of the AWiers and WB'ers who talk so much about wanting to drive vehicles or re-enact fighter-bombing on the same should try out what we have here in AH to get a feel for it. It's not as easy as they imagine it I dare say.
Some of the WB'ers who've never subscribed nor exeperience a $10/mo online service might want to check out the Zone or Gamestorm to see what a vast majority of the subscriber base will be like in WWII Online.  The WB players waiting very much for this sim will be a minority there.
WWII ONline has a great premise. But already it's starting off on the wrong foot with  a really big flaw, that of  being able to freely switch sides. In a "persistant world" ? C'mon.  That's ill though out to say the least.
I'll definately check it out come beta time but it would have to be something REALLY "out of this world" special to make me switch or cancel my account here.  AH has fired up my lust for flying WWII aircraft online like nothing before.
I'm hooked. Just keep that "IV" plugged in HTC
