The MA is HTC's product.

I am sure there is a way to make it the best gaming experience possible.

A moderated arena with visible 'time out' enforcement will solve the problem.

Sounds like a perfect job for the "new guy" to organise.

I don't think there would be a shortage of 'volunteers' to be moderators.

I'd like to see the profanity filter take a page from Isaac Hayes.  Rather than just muting you, you, it lets you get part of the message out:

HT,

I also would much appreciate a permanent squelch list.

Once done, the squelched guy simply "disappears" from the game for the guy who squelched him. It would be as if he didn't exist unless by chance the two engage and one of them gets a kill or exist.

Perfect solution for me. I'd love it.

Also, if you set it up so that HTC could "read" squelch totals.. that might give you a good idea about who needs a little e-mail about behavior...before you boot him for good.  :)

If XXXXXX shows up on 500 players squelch list... it would be one of those things that make ya go "hmmmmmmmmm" wouldn't it?

Yeah, but I squelch people for whining, and that is not really a violation of any rules, just annoying.  I know there are a couple of guys that would make the 500 just on that alone!

Vortex:
I have observed less vigilance recently also. I say this because I received a warning one night a couple of months ago and it was way less objectionable than what ocurred last weekend.
The dood became offensive over CH1, many tried to get him to stop but, he wouldn't listen. He then began harassing those who tried to get him to stop. He continued, I became somewhat involved due to the late hour and a few beverages under my belt. :D
One comment he made set me off; he made open derogatory comments about Jewish people, and I'm not Jewish. I told him to stop and he didn't. This made me a target:cool:
Hehe, like you, I am no stranger to altercations, and would have loved to have had him next to me at the time   But alas! It was not to be. Instead he rambled on w/o reservation over CH1, spewing the most ignorant BS I had heard from an individual in a longtime. Neither he nor I, or anyone else involved received any warning to stop.

IMO, I don't think a patron ought to be banned but, there ought to be some kind of accumulating consequence that may eventually result in banishment for a specified period of time.
Giving him the benefit of the doubt, maybe he was simply drunk; hell I was feeling my cups a bit myself.  If it were just a once in 100 time thing then, at least such a system would be fair.
I've been wondering lately though about the language TOS though, hehe I miss it so ;)

Thanks for the feedback HT. As I noted in my first post I can certainly understand a fiscal inability for a 24/7 monitoring of arenas. Heck, even the bigger MMP titles don't provide that thorough a coverage.

As many have noted, perhaps a persistant squelch is a nice middle ground to shoot for here. One of the big advantages of it would be that it shouldn't be to hard to implement. We're just talking about a basic text file to write and read from. Moreover it would go a long way to provide a bit more robust coverage from the players side of things.

I quite like the idea of keeping a tally of the player squelches although as was also noted one must be careful what conclusions are drawn from that. There's folks that are going to get squelched simply because they're excessively chatty on ch1, or incessant whiners. Neither of which are "offensive" in the strict sense.
