Joystick Woes...
« on: January 09, 2002, 03:08:00 PM »
Hiya guys - Im running with a Wingman Digital Extreme 3D and having some problems... I have it plugged into a USB slot and everything starts out fine, but usually once or twice a flight, the joystick will "hiccup" and go haywire for about 10 seconds, then come back.  Every once in awhile, the joystick will completely disappear and I will have to restart my CPU.  Ive got the latest DL's and cant figure out what is causing this... all I know is that it didnt do this with my AD-11 VIA chip motherboard - but with my new MSI KT266 VIA chipset, all of the above happens.  Ideas?

Thanks,
Mike "Mazz"

I have a Wingman Extreme Force 3d... sitting in the corner of my office!

I liked having all the controls at my finger tips but the thing started spiking the rudder which made lining up a shot an absolute nightmare.

Of course this all occurs after a couple of months of play.  I'd never buy Logitech again.

Dont realy now what u mean with this but i have the same stick and its going out trou the window when i get my new saitek stick on friday...  back to topic now

That stick have a mekanic problem (with pots) that causes it to spike violetly from time to time
i have sufferred same problem and not came up with any solutions, and btw it was a good stick the first 6 months

i hade to mix with the damper settings not to get the "dont move ur controls so rapidly" constantly when stick began to spike but that spoils my gunnery

btw im  having the VIA KT133 chip on mobo (MS 6340)

Mazz, do you have the Profiler running before you enter the game. ( The "W" at the lower right by the clock )

My friend and his brother has been using the Wingman for a year now and since my SWPro3d crapped out I buy the Wingman digital extreme and haven't had any problem as long as the Profiler is running.

i was using a new wingman and it never did get setup right. it spikes and i coudl never get the twitch out of the darn thing.

i have used CH TM and Saitk. i prefer the CH stuff but right now i cant afford it  :( my Squaddie sent me his old Saitek X36 and X35 setup and all is fine. i can even manage a few kills here and there.

I do know  that i would ever use Logitech again .  i know i was out of pratice but.. dang <g>

I have a Saitek ST220, and I recently set the on-stick throttle to control the rudder. Works fine as far as rudder control should work.

My problem is nose-bounce and stick-centering. To get any auto pilot key to work, I have to set the dampering for all my axis at least half way up, and deadband to at least 1/3. This leaves me a "lawn dart" at low alt...and "spray and pray" in a fight.

I can land with my current set-up, and even fight to some degree. But if I have to ride the stall horn, no rudder/power setting will help me. As soon as I move the stick,I stall and spin.

And when I set my stick up to fly decently, I realize that I can't aim a shot in a gunnery position.

I have re-calibrated both in Windows and AH, with the same results.

Combine this with all the recent disconnects...

Any help would be appreciated.

I have a logitech Force Feedback which I bought a month ago. I had serious problems with spiking. Eventually I went to the logitech site and tracked down a programme that purges all the previous settings from other joysticks. Then rebooted and reinstalled the stick. With the profiler running i haven't had a problem since (fingers crossed)  :p

I´m experiencing exacly the same problem with a Microsoft Sidewinder USB, so if anyone has a solution for this problem please post it here or send me an E-mail thanks.

Gents......just a comment.  I've been into combat flight sims for years, online and off.  I've read many posts about setting up joysticks and the like.  IMHO and just from my personal experience I use CH only.  From day 1 using CH I've had no problems, zero, zilch, nada.  And by reading the BBS that I've been involved with, it is a fact that I've seen fewer posts on problems with CH products.  CH came out with USB support and I've seen some posts of those having troubles setting it up in that mode.  But all problems were straightened out with relatively easy fixes.  ;)
