What? No SURPLUS!!!!

Another DEFICIT??

How can this be? The economy suddenly completely reversed itself on January 20, 2001 I guess.

There were certainly NO SIGNS AT ALL that the economy was starting to tank in 1999, now were there?

We must act!

I hereby volunteer to give 30% of my W-2 to the Government to spend as they see fit. I will neither suggest where they should  spend it nor criticize their eventual spending decisions.

Who's with me?

Who'll willing give 30% of their pay to those flawless, altruistic legislators in DC to spend? Come on now.. you KNOW both sides of the aisle have only the good of the entire nation as the goal.

BTW, I want NO ADJUSTMENTS to income on this one... just 30% of  your GROSS pay.

Who's with me?

Bound to totally reverse the recession, right? After all, if the GOVERNEMENT has more of your money, the recession instantly ends. It's in ALL the textbooks.

Let's DO IT!
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

Yes, I am quite amazed at that, Toad. Too many think we would be living in a continued economic paradise under the tutelage of Al Gore and his "lock box". Our economy was in trouble last year (wonder why Greenspan kept fiddling with interest rates?), and 9/11 didn't make it any better. No man alive could keep the economy booming forever, and this is just a natural downturn. In fact, if it wasn't for the technology explosion of the 90's we would have seen a recession much sooner. We have finally come to the place where the installed technology has reached a plateau.

Gentlemen, Gentlemen, Gentlemen...

HOURS have gone by since I made my post asking you to unite and send our honorable representatives in the House and Senate 30% of your gross income so that their incredibly wise spending decisions can end this horrible recession that started instantaneously on Jan. 20 of 2001.

I'm sure you realize that the "common" American is totally unable to spend his own money in a fashion that will benefit the economy.

Only the sage representatives of the "peepul" are capable of that sort of magic.

....yet not a single person has taken the pledge... other than myself, of course.

Stand To Gentlemen! Your Congressmen NEED your largess to spread around and insure their re-election.. oops, I meant to end the recession.

Let's see some names!
