Which performance increase can i expect?
« on: January 15, 2002, 01:21:58 AM »
At the moment i have the following system:

AMD Athlon TB 750 Mhz
256 MB RAM
Matrox G400 32 MB

I am running AH at 1280x1024@30fps in flight or @15 fps in hvy smoke

How much performance increase can i expext when i upgrade my Vidcard to a Geforce 2 Ti?

You should see a significant performance increase.

If you benchmark your system with 3dmark 2001, then go to the online results browser, you can click '3d accelerator comparison', and it will show you the difference, for your CPU, with different video cards.

For how much can you get a GF2 Ti?  $100?  Go a little further for the GF3 Ti 200 for some real speed - $160.

Although a GF 3 would certainly provide a performance increase over the existing G400 card, you would actually get higher framerates with a GF 2 Ti!  The reason is that the GF 3 cards require a little bit more CPU horsepower to reach top performance (so to speak).  If you plan on upgrading the CPU in the near future, then getting the GF 3 Ti 200 would not be a terrible idea.  If you don't plan on doing a CPU upgrade for the next month or so, I would just get the Gf 2.

In early February nVidia will be releasing GeForce 4, so then prices on the Gf 3 line will plummet.

Thanks for the answers, i think i will buy a GeF 2 Ti than.

My thoughts were that a Gef 3 would be not be best "friend" with my CPU. And cause AH is the only game i play most of the time, the combo of my CPU and a GeF 2 Ti will work for another year.
