Grapevine, we have a problem......
« on: January 17, 2002, 10:10:27 PM »
Guys,

The past few months have seen a tremendous influx of new players.

With this there has been a very noticable increase in overall lag and its negative effect on gameplay.   I try to time my prime gaming for late evening when the crowd is thinner and playability
is better compared to high load times when the arenas are jammed with 400+ users and playability is poor.

Thats my point and the growing concern among the long time community members suggest that prime time play is not happening at a level consistent with what AH has always provided, excellent playability.

I hope it gets straightened out soon because its really starting to suck

Regards,
Yeager

I've been seeing this as well.  However, I'm only hooked up to a 56K line.  I've been debating about getting a cable modem, but have been hesitating as to how effective it will be eliminating warps etc when the arena is so busy.  When there are 300 or less players, the 56K seems to do pretty well.  After that, warps get pretty bad, especially at d<300.  Its pretty hard to line up a shot when the bandit is going d300, d325, d275, d325 etc.  Gotta just spray and pray.

Does anyone have any opinion as to how much better a cable modem will be with the warps in a busy arena?  I don't want to bother with it if it isn't going to help.

Thanks for the assistance

Modas, keep the modem.  I use a winmodem on a 56k line, and only rarely do I notice a problem  When the arena hits 420 I rarely get a hit anymore.  Those with dsl and cable modems (as far as I hear) only have terrible things to say.  Right when they switched to this new service I started getting the beacon once in a while.  It is now getting pretty bad, but it is never on my side.  I think HTC will resolve this soon, as it is a do or die business decision.  I hear the ho's bite with the dsl.....

Us with cable / dsl just have to avoid the ho's and kill them properly. Now that can't be that bad can it?
