But does it really matter? Can anyone beat the Rams?IE too many weapons and a coach who will try anything.

A little worried about the Eagles though. They gave the Rams the best test all year.

Also the Rams offensive line is under contract for the next 5 years!

After suffering under Bill Bidwell's ownership of the Cardinal's here in St.Louis for so many years, the last few years here have been sweet!

The refs started screwing that game from the beginning!  Brown made the 1st down, they spotted the ball wrong, then they took the timeout away after they proved they spotted the ball wrong.

What a crock!

I seen at least 2-3 defensive pass interference plays that were not called when NE defenders were all over the Raiders receivers.

The refs turned that game into a pooch screw!

NE was given that game!!  I just hope the refs made some money on it!!

Man, Oakland fans are supposed to be tough.  You girls quit crying already and start working on getting a defense.

Fatty I'm NOT an OR fan I'm just someone who watched a good game go down the tube because of 1 bad call.

I'm a Steeler  fan since the early 80's.

straffo it was a football game.

It was a playoff game between the Oakland Raiders and the New England Patriots. The NE quarterback did a fake pass and then fumbled the ball OR then recovered the ball and the official looked at it on replay(played back the video) and decided it was a incomplete pass which gave the ball back to NE. NE then went on to win it in overtime. If the official had made the right call OR would have won the game.

TY Mighty1

At the risk of being ridiculous how the 49er and Dolphins played this year ?

Last time I followed the american football season ...
It was in ... 1995 :)

I don't  recall the name of the quaterback who got chewed in this superbowl final ... or the previous ...

Btw I was having some US friend at this time who prefered looking superball on french TV than on US TV because instead of advertissement we have a resume of the WHOLE season :)

Actually, the NFL has said the CORRECT call was made.  If fans have a problem with the rule, that's another thing.  However, the rule as it's written was interpreted correctly by the official in the replay according to the NFL.

We need replay in college.  FSU had the exact same thing happen against Miami and the fumble was run back for a touchdown, but of course no replay so the play stood as a touchdown.  In the FSU case on replay it's clear that Rix was in the act of throwing the ball, and not even trying to tuck as was the case with Brady.  Not that it would have mattered, even if we score on that drive (a 14 point swing) we still lose.  ;)

(on a totally and completely unrelated side note, I'm sitting here listening to music, and a track from Empire Strikes Back comes on...  "Luke's Nocturnal Visitor"  I almost expected some 1970's porn sound track...)

Well Mighty, as a Raiders fan, I have zero problem with the ref.  I have a very big problem with a pansy assed defense that has struggled through the year, got lucky because Vinny had a crappy game last week, then struggled through the patriots game.

If they need help from the refs (and that's what they're asking for here, because the correct call was made) to beat the damn patriots, why even bother watching next week.

PS no offense intended about your Pats Moose, they're just not that good.

Better than the Raiders though.

Here's the rule in question "When a Team A player is holding the ball to pass it forward, any intentional forward movement of his arm starts a forward pass, even if the player loses possession of the ball as he is attempting to tuck it back toward his body . Also, if the player has tucked the ball into his body and then loses possession, it is a fumble."

If you look at the replay, the ball was not yet tucked back into his body.   By rule it's an incomplete pass.  Horrible rule, but it was the right call.

yep cougar

for once us pats fans got something going for us

theres a lot of excitement up here since Brady has become the friggin superstar. Anything can happen with him in control. I hope to god that Drew's gone next year and that Brady stays on his game. (not like a particular Bruins goalie whose rookie season was spectactular but during the offseason fattened up and lost his edge. anyone know who im talking about? :) )

How much closer to his body does he need it to be? He had both hands on the ball and he had control of it.

And what did you expect the NFL to say "Yup that call sucked! " ? If they did there would be a bigger stink then there is now.

Why the call was wrong
« Reply #29 on: January 22, 2002, 05:41:11 PM »
It was a bad call, and here's why:

Looking at the replay it was not possible to tell whether the ball was tucked away or not. It was too close of a call.

But the point is that the call on the field was a fumble, so in order to overturn it there needed to be clear evidence that he hadn't tucked the ball away, which there wasn't.

So once again the worst refs in professional sports blew another big one.

And of course the NFL is going to say the refs made the correct call.  Duh.
