Seaplanes!!!

Now I know that practically every country involved in WWII had em... how about this:

Bomber: Some seaplanes were fairly capable bombers, or at least had the ability to be bombers.

Recon: Especially with the limited capability of radar in the CT, a big fat PBY could be a great asset. They could help in location of CV groups and potentially submarines if they are  brought in. Maybe make it so someone pulling a recon has a better vis range for seeing the bad guy.

SAR: A new system could be in place for recovery of pilots. Maybe the pilot who bailed when recovered could be given his complete score back upon return to a friendly base, and the rescue pilot could be given a score based on how many guys he picked up. A bomber with a gunner, the crew goes down in twos. Maybe make it so that if a SAR bird has to land, the guns are operable on the ground, to try and fend off bad guys as they swoop down on him. I know nobody really wants to wait for the plane to make it back to a friendly area, but if they do they can be rewarded  with their full score.

I dunno about you guys but I would LOVE to fly a PBY 5A black Cat around. It could also potentially be something to fly if and when a for real night comes to AH. I even tried to convince my wife to let me name our first  child (due next month) Catalina.

Well... whaddya think?

BTW: I'm not suggesting that we ONLY have a PBY 5A. If we had something such as an Emily, that gives the Japanese a land and sea based troop carrier too

sounds pretty good to me, especially the sar and the (anti-) sub ideas, tho i doubt ht would rather do a (flying) fortress oder liberator/privateer (which were also used by us and uk costal commands for all kinds of naval issues) than a catalina or a sunderland: they´re way easier to implement ´cose they´re land-based airplanes that can take advantage of the air fields already in use, they´re based upon existing or upcoming ah plane models, AND most important: they´re also better looking ;))

axis air frames: (germans) add the ju52 (3m g7e: naval recon & sar; could also be used as an axis transporter similar to the dakota and light buffing issues) and the fw200 'condor' to ah and use the ju88 as a torpedo bomber. (japanese) add the b6n2 'jill', g4m2 'betty' or q1w1 'lorna'. there you have it!

all in all i think the seas in ah desperately need more traffic, since in both the atlantic and pacific theatres, sea-based warfare was crucial to the allied success. just think of the cv war in the mid pacific...

Time to punt all of our old threads up regarding this subject :D

Interesting enough, when "the Navy" came to AH, Pyro mentioned "Sea plane Tenders"...I hoping he's still got that stored in his long term plans, or better yet short term!

I really like the ability to take a PBY out and recover pilots.. that way a person can still keep a good score.  VERY VERY good idea.

Also you could add the B-24 that the Navy used..can't remeber the exect ID but I don't know the name.  Lone Star Museum in Galveston is restoring one.

H8K2 would be far better than any German seaplane/flying boat and better than nearly all US seaplanes/flying boats, far, far better than the PBY Catalina.

Catalina does look better though.

PB2Y Coronado
Bomb's 8,000 internal and 4,000 external!
torpedo capable.
Eight 50cal MG's
223MPH

H8K "Emily"
4,410lb's of Bomb's
torpedo capable
five 20mm and three 7.7mm mg's
282MPH

N1K1 Kyofo "Rex"
Two 33kg bomb's
Two 20mm, Two 7.7mm mg's
304 MPH

A6M2-N Zero "Rufe"
Two 60kg bombs
Two 20mm and two 7.7mm mg's
270MPH

SC-1 Sehawk
Two 250lb and two 100lb bomb's
Two 50 cal mg's
313 mph

Now just 2 of these would make a real nice start in the seaplane department. The Coronado as a buff and the N1K1 as a ftr. they could be used from ports and V bases near a lake or the water, or even airfield's near the water. heck if the added the transport varient of the JU 52 float plane or the transport varent of the coronado it's self you could do a whole capture from one of thse bases. A seaplane tender could be added aas a seperat TF. this would all be a little more feasable on a large map type that Pyro mentioned in the past.

Besides if they add the N1K1 mabby people would stop calling the N1K2-J a NIKI
