The biggest lie the left wing ever told, was that the did not support the war in Vietnam. Of course they did. They just supported the north Vietnamese. It was impossible, in those days, to not take comfort in what was being said. Either for one side or the other. An obvious example would be the use, by the NVA, of anti war news, from back in the USA. To try to dispirit and break American POW's. Even the silence, of the silent majority, had a huge impact. There are no bystanders in America.
Surely you are not suggesting that Amercans of conscience cannot disagree with their government and or its actions?
Saying you were against American involvement in VN was nowhere near saying you were all for NVN. Unless the South was an obvious loser without the huge involvement of American troops. In that case the moral imperitive to assist goes away because they become a puppet state.
Where antiwar protesters failed miserably is in separating the cause from the people. The soldiers who fought in VN should have been, and should always be, revered for their sacrifice and courage.
