Me and my new throttle stick rudder combo....
« on: February 05, 2002, 07:31:29 AM »
Well my wife calls me and tells me that my UPS delivery is at home waiting for me. I, being impatient and having the maturity level of a 12yr old when dealing with my toys, took 3hrs Vacation and rushed home.

Open the boxes with paper, card board and other packing crap strawn all over the house like some sort of demented rat on a rampage. There it is... my babies! My new throttle and USB rudders..wooot!

Well I spend some 4hrs+ getting the darn throttle to work as my old stick I'm using to connect it w/the game port is spiking like mad. I realise its NEVER going to work as is so I of course run out the front door in my house shoes, and a pull over jacket (its 10 degress out) and proceed to drive from one friggen store to anthor looking for a cheap analog stick... "no sir, sorry everything is USB" "Are you sure you dont want a USB" "Game port? Whats that?" ARGGG!

Well I actualy find ONE at the mall. The poor youngen behind the counter looks like he deciding if he should call security or whatever red button he has behind the counter should be pushed. I mean here is a 35 yrs old, unshaven "gym rat" at 6'2 215 in house slippers, a light pull over coat and a manical gleam in his eye...MUHAHAHAHAHAHA ITS MINE ALLLLLLL MINE. I SHALL RULE ALL NOW!!!! I grab my loot and practicaly run out the mall....losing a friggen slipper on the way. Fug it...times wasting, aint got time to stop!

Well I blow through the front door and promply hit our hardwood floor and go TITS UP. I lose the other slipper at this moment. The dog just looks at me and my wife ignores me...she's seen it before. I get up with a slight moan and run upstairs to my PC room.

Okay, after getting this new stick I can get it to work. Tac sends me a helpful email and I confiqure it. I'm ready!! WATCH OUT AH..HERE COMES THE XBAT...WOOOT WOOOT!

Okay.. I up get some alt and find a furball. And I immidently friggen forget WHAT I SET MY DAMN BUTTONS UP AS. Well I dont forget I just gotta look and try to remember what is what!!! Where's my friggen up view??? Where's my GD trim!!! Where's....AHHHHHH I friggen dead!!!!!!

Okay... first one's a bust...np. Try again right? Well this time I dive down on some poor slob and use them 2 beatiful dual throttles. I yank back to kill one Engine to get a tighter turn and....THE FRIGGEN THROTTLE COMES OFF THE DAMN DESK! I'm freaking out, cussing like a sailior, waving that damn throttle in the air as my hapless 38 augers into the waves....

 sigh

I hope it gets better as I get more use to this setup....

ROFLMAO! Some of the funniest reading I've done in a long time :)

I just returned my new HOTAS, X36, throttle didn't work to 100% (well, almost did so no big worries, used it as an excuse to return it though), it was just way too big for me however the stick had a much nicer feel in the movement then my MS Sidewinder, gonna start looking for something new again but not as big.

I wish you all luck with you new and hope you get used to it soon.

Moi Wilbus!

X36  Rudder rocker (throtle rudder) is not good for normal rudder using. I recomend to you external rudder pedals.

Original rudder rocker you can use as rudder trim.

I'd like to see some gun camera film of you using the dual throttle in the P-38.  Thinking about getting a Suncom throttle myself for this game.

Oh I forgot to tell you xbat.. I had to SCREW my throttle to the desk *G*.

FYI, the suction cups on the bottom can be unscrewed, and the screw size they use is fairly easy to get in any hardware store. Drill holes in bottom of desk, and tighten that sucker into the desk.

:)

Well...after I worked out and then proceeded to slam my customery beer or 2 a night I came up w/a setup I like. I have my throttle set for light resistence and kind of an inverse logic increase/decrease. What I mean is that to kill the RPM's I push it foward...to increase I pull it back. Seems to work better.

Its just gonna take awhile for me to adapt...but I'll get there.

I was speaking to a squadmate that have used velcro on bottom of stick & throttle & velcro on desk, he says it works good.

ouch Batdog.. I just recently posted a cheap fix to the spikey controller problem, woulda saved the cost of a new stick, but guess ya didn't see it.  For anyone else interested, see
Help for Spikey Controllers , and I will punt the companion thread in this forum as well.
