This bird can turn some, so surprise those that mistake it for one of the 109's that can't turn so well.  Learn to shoot very well, and only take the good shots, as it doesn't have a great gun set.
Franz is a nice plane, but you must be a good gunner, and you'll have to kill them all to escape.  Your only way out of a bad situation most of the time is to kill all the bad guys or out-climb them.

Bottom line is you need very good SA and maintain an E advantage.  A higher Spit is bad bad trouble for the Franz.  Keep your eyes peeled, and don't miss.

Way back when I used the 109-F as my primary ride in the TA. By only using the 7.9mm I could T&B with folks I was helping and actually ping em without hurting em much...I found it was a suprisingly good plane...I think its one of the great perk builders in MA....I'd carry 75% and drop tank and get that puppy up reasonably high. It handles much better than the other 109's (at least for me). I've found it'll act like a G10 in the vertical....as long as you have the alt to wind it up...it'll retain E well...if you initiate a B&Z or E fight and then change up you can catch a con napping...boom em a couple times...and chop as you extend to hard vertical....lot of better pilots will try and minimize there E loss and wait to wear you down...if they think your another G10 they'll be suprised how well you can counter there evasives coming down on top of em with zero throttle...use rudder to into the break...if you miss keep nose down and hit the gas. Extend till your well clear and climb on back up on your perch.

I do not fly much of F4 but a lot of G2. The key for me to get some success is to be super aggressive and force the enemy to near stall speeds in which early 109 shines. Then the acceleration and change to vertical should do the trick.

This works very well against AMI-planes and even some to spits but to real t&b planes it maybe wiser to use mixed b&z and t&b.

Og course, if you blow it, in G2 you can run from Spit9 but in F4 it's not that easy.
