screen freeze during flight
« on: February 18, 2002, 05:12:22 PM »
Many times before a kill the screen freezes up for 5 seconds and i crash...Only happens in a dogfight...Just before I get the kill it happens...Either someone has figured out a cool Hack or the program has issues...

Has anyone else experienced this behavior in the game?

My Comp":

ASUS Geforce 2 deluxe 64 meg ram
512mg PC-800 RDRAM
Western dig. 7200 RPM 40 gig EIDE

First of all, just because you have an issue, doesnt mean there is a hack or a program "issue"

It is far more likely that there are one of a few problems:

Corrupt install, driver, or graphic file causing an overflow when the texture attempts to render.  Could also be as simple as a problem with a sound driver/file if it always happens AFTER youve fired your guns (maybe the explosion causing problems?

Zone alarm also is know to cause lots of micro-warping (short pauses), which are noticable most when close to another plane or object.

May even be a hardware issue, maybe your GF2 card chokes on occasion because of a heat problem.

You also may want to see if it happens offline too.  Hope you find the solution

defrag always helps me . Any AH patch or install , defrag , game always works lots better .

Have better luck with the 21.83 driver for gforce than the later ones .

Set your sound acceration down a notch in Directx also , that also can help .

Actually, check again, cause no one else has this problem so it is an issue on your end.
Check IRQ, video and sound card drivers, and the latest directx.

...your using the onboard audio arent'cha?

I have the same motherboard (P4T-E).  I'm fairly certain the same thing happened to me before I disabled the onboard ac97 crap.  If you a soundcard laying around, disable your onboard stuff and see what happens with the soundcard installed.  (you should probably also disable the onboard sound with the jumper on the board too...err, I think it's down under that CNR riser doomahitchie slot at the bottom of board.)

...oh and btw, Asus has a bios update (Feb or late Jan) available.  The very minor stability issues the board "had" are gone. Do that first if you haven't (the online bios flash utility on the boards cdrom is very very cool).

I had a freak lockup the other day--coincidentally right as I was about to shoot someone down.  I looked inside my computer and the fan on my GeForce 256 SDR card had stopped which caused the video card to lock up.  Got a new blue orb HS/fan for $7 and problem solved.

Maybe not your problem, but check you have good cooling in your system and that all fans are functioning properly.

Try firing your guns in a non-combat situation to see if it is sound related........ that, I would think, would be the first step
