Wtg Powell (and even Bush)
« on: February 16, 2002, 04:08:01 AM »
Hard to think that this topic could be 'controversial' - but my respect for Powell just went up a notch.

Bush has surprised me positively too, by backing him on this.

The article is about using condoms to prevent the spreading of STD's, most notably AIDS. Some conservative groups are of course not favouring the idea, probably due to a papal edict that has *nothing* to do with religion, but rather is a new thing thought up by the Vatican.

Powel said:
"It is important that the whole international community come       together, speak candidly about it, forget about taboos, forget
about conservative ideas with respect to what you should tell young people about it," he said."

Then these right wing nutters say:

"Colin Powell is the secretary of state, not the secretary of      health," Dobson said. "He is talking about a subject he doesn't    understand," Dobson said."

Oh yeah, you gotta be a genius biology major to figure out that unprotected sex can lead to STD's and unwanted pregnancies

Sure, Bush thinks abstinence is better, but he has the guts to admit that sex happens. He even goes against some of his potential supporters: conservatives of the Catholic faith. WTG Bush!

Well, you see StSanta, if we use condoms and keep our birth rates artificially low then the darker skinned peoples will over populate the world and it will be the death of the west:rolleyes:

Actually, my Labrador has had his eye on a Benelli for some time now so he can shoot his own ducks -- I keep missing.

Just thought I would get that in before the upcoming gun debate starts.

Actually Santa, all this may have come from an questionaire he did on MTV
Yesterday I was browsing the channel guide and the name  Colin Powell was on MTV.
Thinking it was a mistake, I tuned to the channel for the first time in a few months.

The man did a hour long program where kids from around the world could call and ask him any sort of questions; from terrorism (the most debated topic), to help to the poor, aids, etc.

One christian girl from Italy called and asked what was he gonna do about condoms and if he thought they were inmoral.

The gave gave a great answer.

It was a nice program if you can catch it someday, it will be worth infecting your TV with the MTV cancer.
