need a little help with stick setup
« on: February 11, 2002, 09:33:17 AM »
Ok, the new box from my thread about opinions on the nForce chipset is up running, and verra nicely too.

I've encountered one big problem.  When I set up my sticks the box doesn't see the keyboard, so I can't get past to the log in screen.  Everything else seems fine.

The sticks are TM F-16 FLCS, WCS MkII (I'm looking for a TQS :D ), elite pedals.

Running Win2k pro

Anyone have any suggestions? (Other than buy new sticks, not in the budget right now).  I'm effectively grounded til I solve this dilemma (and replace the WCS pot).

no keyboard not present error when booting, but win2k won't take any keyboard inputs, like at the user logon, when it's run through the WCS.

I take it you haven't switched to the TM digital chips yet?  They eliminate the need to route your keyboard through the controlers.  It would solve your problem, I'm pretty sure.

They cost $60 for the set (TQS and F16/F22).  They're easy to install and well worth the money.  You'll also need to get the Win2k drivers to make everything work just right.

Where can I find the digital conversion DjV?  I've heard about it but never really looked for it as I have yet to aquire a TQS and am currently stuck with the old WCS Mk2.

In other news, apparently the problem was with the 5din to ps2 adapter thingamajig.  Went over to a buddy's house, thumped in him the head, and Bogarted an extra one he had layin around.  We're back in business.

Only thing left now is to clean/replace the pot in the WCS so it Windows won't tell me I'm nuts when I try to calibrate it :D

How do clean these things anyway....
hell maybe I'll just toss it into the washing machine :D

Ok, now it appears that my one time getting it all working right was just a fluke/stroke of luck that ended when I had to shut down the box.  From watching the D-bracket LEDs it appears the keyboard controller either can't or won't recognize the keyboard when it's connected through the pass through.

Anyone ever have a problem like this?

I'm not experienced with joysticks like yours, but I do know that Win2k does not allow applications to access the keyboard directly like win9x did.  Win2k itself may be the problem...

I wondered about that for a minute bloom, but the problem seems to happen even before Win2k boots.  The D-bracket LEDs seem to indicate the system is pausing in booting when it gets to 'Initializing keyboard controller'.

I got it to work once for a couple days, then I had to shut the box down cause the wife needed the ps/2 to at thingie so she could tinker with her old box (her new one ain't done yet).  Haven't been able to get it working again.
