zigrat has 38 kills and has been killed 10 times in the F4U-1D.

clearly its a capable aircraft. where is what i observed by trying it out.

Roll: Great roll rate, nearly that of the 190a8

Speed: about the same as a p47

Turn: Great low speed turner versus ami planes, beats p51,p47,p38

Climb: pretty crappy, same as the p47 at low alt,. less at high alt

accel: again pretty crappy,

dive: pretty good, but not like p47

durability: again pretty good but not like the jug

ive been flying the jug lately, so thats why comparisons to it

oh and the most important thing:

FORWARD VIS: this thing has PHENOMENAL forward visibility, i made MANY snapshots i would have never made in a 190 because the crosshairs are elevated in that glass pane. This helps a LOT

Citabria has 28 kills and has been killed 4 times in the F4U-1D.

I've found the same results w the f4u1d as zigrat

the fact that it turns with p38s is agrivating

My grandpa flew this and the 1C in WWII and Korea and he says "it was real hard to fly. It had average accel, below average climb, great turning at higher speed (but poor at low speeds), good dive speeds, and good roll rate (better to the left cause of tourqe)   It was very hard to take off if you didn't know how. (Ensign Eliminator)   And it doesn't glide well." (Lt. Col. Earl Price,  US Marine Corps.) Just some facts form a F4U pilot.

I'm 8-1 in a F4U-D, its a great plane....

It has great top speed on deck, dives well and as noted by Zigrat has a great forward view which makes them snapshots very easy..

combined with your .50's which in my case are adjusted for snapshots with convergence at 200, 225 , 250 i really take them out in 1-2 bursts.... just like the mustang...

F4U-D is a killing machine when flown like a e fighter.

my 2 cents

Duck has 80 kills and has been killed 10 times in the F4U-1D

One addendum i want to make to your JUG / Hog comparison:

it IS faster on the Deck than a P47 and climbs slightly better but only at a little margine in both values.

In a dive the HOG will be longer controllable than the JUG but it lacks the dive breaks that are deployable at any speeds (only up to 350 IAS for gear in Hog)

It's acceleration in the dive is less than the JUG but it will catch up in time

well ok if we use all the people here why is the k/d the worst in the game! its the reason everyone cites about why f4u needs to be fixed.

Gents,

My time is limited so I'll make it quick.
I can sustain a plus kill ratio in a -1C but in a -1D I become easy meat. Zigrat is one of the best in the game and his results in any A/C prove that out. But he and others on this board prove my point for me. Find any historic reference to the F4U being a poor accellerator, climber or being sluggish. Zigrat echoed exactly what I said were the problems with the AH model. Use a Zero for a baseline flight comparison. A F4U-1D was supposed to be able to climb with one up to 10K equally then become superior above that alt. Does the FM here represent the F4U historically? Other than that I agree with Zigrat. Check my post prior to the test under "Something is not right in Mudsville Part two".

That may be one of the primary reasons for the ahem, oveall K/D of the F4U. I think this plane has the best shooting viz of any fighter in the planeset.

...and as my eyes get older that means a lot, at least to me.

(and puh-leez...don't start in with the guns thing again, or I'll ask you to show us something with the -1C guns that I can't do with the FW guns with one more hit flash or two!)

the f4u does

they used highspeed climbs to get away from the zero.

they did not climb at 170mph to try to outclimb a zero.

Zig,

Let's do that! I don't shoot at tank much but lets go to the TA and blast a few.

I'll park and you (in F4) shoot the engine bay from aft aspect.

I'll do the same to you in a FW.

We'll film a few of these and then count hit flashes.

The way Beemer and I did it before was we checked damage after each short burst and then lined up again.

I'd love to try this.

Some of the knowledgeable guys might comment on the ammo used by the different guns with respect to tanks. I'm not up on that stuff.
