In 1.09, should a couple destroyers be added out in front of the cruiser for more realistic fleet positioning? Most fleets are not lead by cruisers, are they? Not enough ack or sub defense, I would think.
Not to give away a sterling tactic, but present cruiser lead puts it out ahead of smaller escorts with more versatile ack, especially all points of compass on the deck.
The present system of cruiser leading provides a huge target blind to a head-on bombing run on the deck. There, I've given away the tactical secret, although I see some of you have been using it anyway.
The cruiser forward 5-inchers are blocked by 8-inch turrets in front from depressing to sea level, and the side 40s don't reach in front.
I've read other posts recommending other model cruisers be substituted. I'd vote for one that has more effective 360-degree ack protection from sea level on up.
My wish list includes allowing total control of destroyers as we now can control pt boats, including torpedo launchers and 5-inch guns. Would make for even more interesting fleet battles.
