Never heard about ATA, but the thing you should look for if it is an IDE-drive or SCSI-drives...

Never heard of an IDE-drive not being compatible from one comp to another... (as long as both computers uses IDE-drives that is)

The drive will work, but it won't be at ATA-133 bus speed. It'll be at ATA-100.

You probably won't notice the difference even if you had a mainboard capable of supporting it.

Because of their downward compatibility Ultra-ATA/133 drives run without any problems with Ultra-ATA/100, ATA/66, and ATA/33 interfaces as well. The drives will adapt their interface speed automatically to the slower interfaces.

you wouldn't get the same performance (speed) depending on motherboard/hardrive specs

one of my most noticeable performace boost was when I went to a 7200 100ATA drive on a compatible mb - hard drive access time was noticeably reduced.
