new comp sutff, AMD XP OC ?

just ordered a Soyo Dragon+, XP1900, 512k Mushkin 2100 DDR, 40 gig 7200 rpm ATA100 HD, 52x CDrom, 350W Enermax PS  all for $860 2day delievery :).

can i OC the XP1900 bu just upping the FBS like Intel chips
or do i have to do the L1 bridge stuff?

Sure you can OC with fsb, especially with quality ram that you got.

However FSB oc'ing introduces problems like shortened lifespan of PCI devices (you oc them too..) etc.

Unless you don't do radical changes and/or your mobo supports exotic PCI dividers, you'll do fine.

Multiplier unlocking is mainly for those guys who want to ooze the last bit of performance by going to 170+mhz FSB :) XP unlocking is a bit of a pain..

Or to the casual dweeb who just taps the multiplier up a couple notches to gain an easy oc (I have factory unlocked 1.4 t-bird..)

if i remember right the Soyo Dragon+ has  dividers to keep the PCI and AGP  in spec no matter the FBS :)

Whels, whre'd ya go through to order it? i'm going to be building a new puter in 2 weeks (tm) (tax man was nice this year) and am looking around for a quality place to order all me parts from :)

here Hamish, ive ordered before from them  and they have quality service. i took the soyo dragon+ xp1800 combo
and upped it to 1900 and 512k ram.

they even sell garenteed OC chips :)

http://www.azzo.com is also a pretty good place if youre looking for a cheap / fast custom setup pc.

The XP CPUs are not cut like the old ones were. It takes more than a 2h lead pencil to link the L1 bridges now. There is a real good write up on it as well as links to sites that will show you how to unlock the XP here
