very nice terrain, but why the pointless and fps killing cluttersheep alllllll over?  it only penalizes those without monster cpu/vid cards, and frankly there's no need for all them sheep.  from a fps of 40+ on old DA terrain, down to 14-15 (unplayable) on the new WW terrain, is simply too big a hit on many machines for no good reason.

the terrain itself rocks, but lose the groundclutter.
Surrounded by suck and underwhelmed with mediocrity.
I'm always right, it just takes some poepl longer to come to that realization than others.
I'm not perfect, but I am closer to it than you are.

I think you will find the sheep are one of the most treasured aspects of this game. They have been here from the start.

FPS fell off due to many other additions. The sheep were here back when FPS were much higher for a given low-end system.

Deleting the sheep won't give you back many fps, but it will leave many other pilots feeling lonely at night. Not everyone here has a wife, and the sheep are so warm and soft... not to mention numerous. In fact, the sheep to guy ratio is tremendously better than the girl to guy ratio in this game.

Can you name one decent MMOL flight sim without sheep that gets better fps than AH? I didn't think so. Most games with graphics as good or better usually have lower fps even without the sheep. Of course all the really good ones have their own sheep, too!

F*** the fps, long live the sheep in AH!

lol, i know the history of sheep, but no need for 1,000's of them when a few herds here and there will suffice.  they *are* a fps killer. i liked it better when they were toggled by the ground clutter toggle.

my .2 cents:

1) Make the donut terrain walls stop at 10k (field alt). Having the clouds and mountain walls makes for a very nasty splat. Plus, WW's with fast planes like 262's will be almost impossible. Instead of walls, why not put ye olde beer bottles? :) Donut and beer.. yuummmm!

2) Remove the sheep.

3) Put "dumb" fields in strategic places inside the donut, these fields could be a VH (with nothing enabled) without AA guns. This is just so when people get shot down they can go to the towers and watch the action. Just a tower will do anyway.

In all, its a beautifull terrain!

There was supposed to be an invisible tower like the rumble terrian had.  When we sent the terrain to HTC they assumed it was a mistake and toook it out.

Hopefully it will be back in there soon.

I too noticed a framerate hit.  I flew the terrain offline and it was fine.  But my framerate was about 50% of what I normally get.  This is the first test of the terrain online with several players.  I think the size is good, and I would not want to lower the walls.

We will do our best to work on the terrain and tweak it if we can.  It may be like this for a few weeks however.

Ummmm, how about saving up some of your beer money and buy a little newer system. I mean a couple hundred bucks would get you a decent motherboard and cpu.

My system started out being just a PIII 650/100 (PII 400 is actually faster in some ways) with 128 MB of RAM and a Daimond Viper II 32MB (S3 S2000 chip), back then VIA 4-in-1 drivers were not all they could be either...

The sheep were not the cause of low fps. Turning ground clutter lowered fps (along with smoke and flying around bases). Of course now the "old" ground clutter (trees and rocks) is always on and the "new" ground clutter switch toggles the low alt textures which can really kill fps.

I understand that when your average fps is 20 to 30, 5 fps is a big difference, but I still don't believe (based on my own experience with a system comparable to yours) the sheep are that big of a hit compared to several other factors.

I initially upgraded my video card because Diamond and S3 never finished making the Viper II drivers fully DX7 compliant. When it worked, it looked really good and had plenty of speed, but nearly every game (except AH :)) had flaws. Ironically, I picked the Voodoo 5 based on what was being said over at the WB site and they no longer even support it.

I feel sorry for you if you can't afford to upgrade a  little since my system is already reaching its limits with newer games. At some point, AH is going to have to upgrade their graphics to remain competitive. I want to see AH stay up with technology, but I dread the day when I have to leave my Voodoo behind. It looks so good, but it is too slow to handle the newest stuff.

All my pocket empties on tution fees.  Once there is something worth upgrading the pc for, most likely a new AutoCAD/3DSMax/Maya version rather than AH; since WSCars will never come out, I will, stuffed tower for sure.
But it's not so bad (avg. fps is ~20, 10 over sheep and ~2 in thick smoke - imagine that Whels!), from what you say it must be a hardware specific prob.

Either way, if the framerate hit was halved by sheep herds (they must outnumber MA pilots 5:1 easily...) it would make trajectory prediction that much easier.
Not really asking for it, just a note.

Enjoy the high fps.

Sorry your system is pulled down so bad by sheep...

Mine never dropped below 20 fps for anything but smoke, bases, and enabling ground clutter (AH 1.03/1.04).

My fathers computer used to barely hit 10 to 15 in open skies... I used school money to upgrade mine and replace his. Now both of our systems are equal except that his is a micro atx and I have a Saitek stick.

It is really cool having two capable equally matched computers side by side. Perfect for AH, Starfleet Command, Operation Flashpoint, you name it.

On the downside, I ended up having to take $6000 in loans to finish school ($10000 spent on car repairs didn't help especially when the car still hasn't ever been fully restored to what it once was :().

I miss the early terrains...

Remember Shinerbock/Pizza Mountain?

I got a great film of HBlair killin' FDBs in the act of Pagan Rituals on that mountaintop :D
