What a fantastic sim.

IL-2 after a reload and serious time in gameplay is just sweetness.

Initially I did not like it, as I discounted what AH did and IL-2 didn't.

Now comparing the 2, it's easy to see they are completely diffrent, from gameplay and a user demographic.

Still, as most players in AH are WWII Aircraft junkies, this IS the toejam.

With users MODS for Campaign play, it's just what every flightsim rag raved about, in a single player format. Multiplay is actually pretty good as well surprisingly.

Awesome.

If you don't have it, BUY IT.

Small group(8-12 people) multi is outstanding, given good missions to run.  And you can build the missions, so there is no excuse there.

wish it had noise when you get hit and u hit the other guy. think the damage model could be lighter, takes forever to down a plane

good game though

The no sound when getting hit will be fixed in next patch according to Oleg.
I haven`t seen the new demo, but I doubt it`s what the full game looks like.
BTW many new planes are coming soon too.P-40,Bi-1..
and cockpits for some of the now only AI:190D,Stuka,I-153..etc.
It keeps me entertained, and most likely I`m sticking with IL2 for a long time.

Fish you can map the views so they are just like AH.
And I never noticed the prop.
Only issues I have with it relate to the FM.
It's a great game, probably the best box sim I've ever seen.
If it ever goes MMP and they add RAF/USAF/IJ/etc then I'm all over it!

Can’t say I could work the IL-2’s views as liberal as AH, but SHIFT-F4 set a good gun sight start point, and from there I mapped the hotas to do just about what I wanted. The 6 view is limited, seems right, but I’m not going to argue that. It seemed pretty realistic limiting.

IL-2 delivers in spades graphic wise, COOP multiplayer setups, Single player of course, and cockpit immersion of the historical correct variants in it’s limited plane set. You actually feel like your flying in a 109, that’s rare.

Where it dies is “stuttering”, and damage model. It does the latter so well, but connects seem to undermine it’s realistic intension. Fly IL-2 online for a hour, returning to base killless, then log in AH and  rack up 5 kills. Snap “Boom!” repeat. Actually, that’s cool. Correct modeling? Dunno, someone is WAY off though.

Another thing is outside views. It’s a cool feature, yet AH diehards would slam it as bad as AH combat trim. Well, not nearly, AH accepts hoopty trim. IL-2 looks so good, I prefer servers that allow them.

Yeah, Creamo, I always allow ext. view, it is too pretty not too.  I also like to be able to follow the fight once I am done.  I also always leave Padlock on; I tried to prove an advantage using it, but it appears to be a good implementation of the concept.  i.e. what you gain in target tracking, you more than lose in general SA.

I use "NIPLE", NoIconPadLockExtview as the settings designator, BTW, if you see me on HL.

You can do some mission design that will give you good, fast action.  I generally do airstart on those missions, keeping in mind that takeoff is optional, but landing is not.

Right you are. I'll look for you on HyperLobby, I've been messaged more than once, seems some AH regulars fly there, that's cool.

I haven't even tried padlock, and as a ex-Hornet Korea sim junky, I thought it was manditory. However, after AH it is not. i see it no more a cheat than looking at the sweet IL-2 plane models outside view in route.

Im really interested in the COOP missions, as the ones I DL'd are a blast. Wether i could talk the fat gay bastards to actually running them, not sure. Im up for time/day meets.

Guess what the major gripe seems to be with IL2 Coop?

Yup, Icons.

When on they also activate on the in game map and every plane is visible on same.

We hope something is done next upgrade to at least get the planes off the map.

Without icons it is nearly impossible to ID cons unless you are in the cockpit with them.

Coop is a lot smoother but understandable, in dogfight people are coming and going a lot and there are hesitations ala AH H2H awhile back.

You guys probably know this but hesitations are reduced if you turn off skin downloads in setup.

I mostly do coop but sometimes I jump in an open dogfight to see if I can fluff their base and escape (only landed 1 time in a dozen tries.) and with a good, not great computer I get minifreezes each time a player comes or goes.

While waiting for AH to sort out strat and bomber problems you can find me at hyperlobby most evenings looking for someone to CMA as I fluff about the countryside.

The IL2 is a great ground wrecker and that 190 with a 250kg bomb can mess up a day too.

You guys probably also know that in your net cache folder every online coop mission you fly is stored as a .mis and a .properties file and can be renamed and moved to net coop 1 and flown or hosted from your computer.

Just backspace out the long series of numbers and put any name in their place leaving the .mis or .prop tags.

.mis and .prop must be named  exactly the same and both moved into a Coop  folder, use 1 or 2 or make a new one.

what i'd like to see change on the il2 icon system is the ability to allow ranging icons with out the ID icon or the 'magic map'.

you just cant simulate ranging on a 2-d monitor, and ID'ing planes is prety tough with out depth perception. (is it a amaller plane closer or a larger farther away)

as it is i play with the icons on but i wish i could just go with ranging icons in coop or campaign games and range + team color for dogfight (where you can fly either country's plane)
