AH on Win2K?
« on: March 02, 2002, 11:16:14 AM »
my Win ME gaming machine has finally died: the latest crash left my hard-drive corrupt and the OS can't be recovered. So now it's time for me to rebuild and I'm considering Win2K (which I've ben impressed wiht at work, at least my windows standards).
Has anyone had any problems running AH on Win2k?
Also how well do games work in general on Win2K?

Thanks

I run AH under win2k.  (As do a lot of us.)  It works fine, though it is likely you'll lose a couple FPS compared to winME.  (It makes up for it in system stability though.)

They work great, just download SP2 and proper drivers.

Also install and run this if you want to get more than 60fps with D3D games (I assume you use a geforce)

I got a win2k system in January, works fine. Only problem I had was self induced, I had my desktop set to 32 bit color and game set to 16 bit (max res) and when I alt tab'd out of the game and came back in colors were corrupted. Setting desktop to 16 bit cured the problem.

Bockko if you check your refresh rate, you'll probably find it's 60hz. Haven't you noticed the flickering yet?

I've played on both Win98 and Win2k. I was surprised to see no difference on fps (between platforms), no matter what drivers I used (GF2 MX). I'm perfectly happy with Win2k, but I had to install Win98 in order to get my CH-Throttle work (requires real dos). Installing and adjusting Win98 (with numbers of blue screen of deaths), I'm grateful to Micro$oft for making such a superb platform as Win2k is.
I had "alt tab" -syndrome too, but after changed my desktop and AH resolution to same, problems were gone.

Just go for it, you won't regret it.

NT compatible is good place to visit, if you wanna be sure whether or not  your other games works under Win2k.
