While me and several players were testing D9 no-control in dives in DA we discover a curious behaviour with the P51.

We were taking off from A3 towards North with a lot of plane types, and diving in a row. But no one was able to take off with the P51 having a cross wind of only 15mph. Auto-takeoff only way. The rest of planes suffers little or no wind effect while taking off.

That's a strange bug. It's the same in P-51B and D but the other aircraft are fine.

I tried N and S, then I tried off the runway into the wind and with the wind. Every time it rolls left at about 100 IAS even with full right stick. I made it up a couple of times. The first time I landed with no problems on the runway, turned around, tried to take off again and rolled it at 100 and crashed.

The P-51 is OK at lower fields but shows the bug at the 15k alt fields.

Cause it seems more a problem with the flight modeling (issue) than a pure bug.

I agree, same problem with B and D, just when reaching 100mph with a 15 mph NW cross wind at 15k. Right wing goes up suddenly and violently and no way to recover unless slowing down very fast. Same effect taking off North or South.

It also happens going into the wind and away from the wind so it seems more like a bug than a flight model issue. Also, you can land with the same crosswind that prevents takeoff.

I posted with regard to this last week in the bugs forum.
Its only at the 15k fields and wind is not an issue, it happens with zero wind.
Whether you take off north or south the plane rolls uncontrollably to the left at approx 80 to 90 mph.
You know its going to happen as soon as the wheels roll, if you watch the Slip ball etc as soon as the plane moves it goes full deflection which way depends on north or south takeoff but the uncontrollable flip is always to the left.
And yes auto takeoff does get around the problem, but then who uses auto takeoff ?
I was wondering if it was just me, so happy to see its not now

I missed that post Cavalier, from the title I thought you had log-in problems.

You mentioned 0 wind at 16k but there is a NW wind from 10k of 15 mph which AFAIK should hold up to the new setting at 16k.

Unless i missed something all the wind layers i remember are usually effective for 1000ft above the set alt.
But you could be correct, either way it should not be having the effect on the P51's that it is.

The help files state that wind is set in 15 layers of 2000ft and
the settings apply to the selected layer and all layers above.

It sounds like this means additional layers combine wind vectors
so the 0mph wind at 16k would be added to the 15mph wind
instead of reseting the wind speed and direction.

It would be nice if wind could be set locally for ridge lift, downdrafts,
and thermals over heat sources.
