Saw the same thing, Phantom.  Then I backed all the way out and tried again, and now I can't get to the arena log in screen.  Don't suppose they'd be releasing 1.09 on a Sunday night, do you?

MarkAT, send HTC an email, explain what happened and they will restore your points.

No server crash, but it looks like the line to the main arena went down for a minute and dumped most people,  making them simultaneously hit the login server which caused some further weird symptoms.  It looks normal now.

I feel the HTC server pains.

A new line is on order as I understand it, a "News" post is in order me thinks to advert the inevitable players question regarding connects. Related to this glitch or not.

Just saying
