If your unable to open avi output it might be Windows media player causing the problem.

I was using version 7.1 with Win98SE and couldn't open avi's produced with the editor.

I checked off all 7.1 uninstall options and wiped out everything listed.

After rebooting version 6.4 media player was present and working, film editor output is now viewable.

I used Regclean to clean the registry after the restart.

just uninstall through add/remove in control panel

then check everything and remove it...then clean your reg.......

I then reinstalled 7.1 and went  here  and installed everything I could fer win 98 and 7.1
it works great now............
