A bomb 4sq mile raddius , grids are 25x25 square miles

It might be neat if there was an Atomic bomb in the game, if it was done right.  The A bomb developed in WW 2 could obliterate 10km/4sq miles roughly, not counting fallout and radiation further out.

We have grid squares that are 25 by 25 square miles. A bomb droped could easily take out one airfield and everything around it for a few miles.

Wouldnt it be neat if each country got a chance to use ONE every 12 hours or so if the country met certain requirements, like portecting their HQ from bombing for those 12 hours.  The bomb would be big enough to take out a field and everything few miles around it.

I propose that the field would be unusable for 12 hours also, by any of the sides due to radiation.  It would make for some interesting strategy, like, "we cant capture A1, so lets bomb it and deprive the Rooks of it also"

Ok, it may be a stupid idea and its late and I'm going to bed now

interesting idea.  I like the idea of being able to drop a nuke from time to time.

But that brings about the problem of deciding who gets to decide the use for the bomb.  I can't imagine the heated arguments that would arise on the country channel about it.

While it would be fun to launch a sortie of 5 B17s (1 w/ nuke, 4 w/ 1k eggs) to drop a nuke on the city then take out the hq, I have to vote against this idea because of the arguments it's liable to cause deciding how to use it.

Now all of a sudden I want an atomic bomb just to see the dismay on the faces of players who try to get airborn with one in a B-17.

Actually, the debate would be on which field to drop the bomb on and when.......

If, when the 12 hours are up and the next person to go into the hanger would see the "Nuke" as an loadout option for the B17. Whoever knew the time was about up or whoever got lucky, would see the option till somoene hits "FLY" that selected the bomb.

I'm still curious as to how you guys plan on delivering this weapon of mass destruction.  Fat Man weighed 11,000 pounds, almost twice the possible loadout of the B-17 and nearly three times the loadout of a B-26.  Little Boy weighed almost 8,000 pounds, still a ton heavier than the B-17 could carry.

A B-24 could carry one, but its operational alt and speed are low enough that it would never escape the blast.  Only a B-29 could deliver one, but modelling one of these has serious implications for arena play balance.

In other words, give up this silly endeavor.

Wasn't the -G model capable of carrying around 20,000lbs?  Just space in the bays limiting the # of eggs in AH I guess

Maximum bomb load of a B-17G was 16,000Lbs, it just couldn't fly very far with it.  I don't know what the max load of a B-24 was.  B-29 had a max load of 20,000Lbs.  Lancaster had a maximum load of 22,000Lbs.

Info on the B-17G:

Info on the B-26G:

According to _The Great Book of WW2 Airplanes_, page 132, the normal maximum allowable takeoff payload is 6x1200 lb bombs (9600 pounds) or 2x4000 pounds (8000 pounds), not 16,000 pounds.

Here's a link to info on Fat Man and Little Boy, including weight and length.  Fat Man was over 12 feet long by 5 feet wide, and Little Boy was 12 feet long by 2 or so feet wide.  Would that even fit in a B-17 bomb bay?

Enjoy!
